Ahhhhh...there you go again, claiming that I'm the one spewing the BS: I'll have you know, I didn't go to slave at Henderson until MAY of '09 - AFTER freight had already picked up. They didn't force company drivers to team up until July - THAT's when the lot was so full of dropped-off tractors, because so many company drivers refused to run teams, that you couldn't find a parking spot there!
Get your facts straight!
As I said: I was hired specifically (or so Sarge claimed) because I lived in central California. They had solo drivers (both lease and company) coming out here all the time - and they still do. One that I talked to lives in San Diego, and he runs out here weekly: another is a female driver that lives at Pyramid Lake, in northern Nevada - she too, runs out west weekly.
But they wouldn't send me out here until I demanded some home time. I mean - I don't pay bills on the internet, so I did need to be back here once in a while, and it would have been nice if they let me earn something with which I could pay the bills - on time or otherwise. Had they let me make some money I could have bought a laptop & payed bills online, but it never happened, and I wasted 4 months of my life there, waiting for larger paychecks that never happened. Because I was in the process of trying to rebuild my credit/was starting to borrow money from friends to pay my rent/other bills, I couldn'twaste anymore of my time there.
The switch to ELOG's didn't happen until August, and that's a bunch of BS that you can't make a living running solo with it: any driver that believes that doesn't know how to manage their logbook! I consistently ran 3500+ miles a week with a ELOG in another company, no problem at all, and I didn't have to do anything illegal to do it.
You left a cush job because YOU refused to change? Yet you stayed at Henderson and switched to ELOG's? That makes no sense at all. New VP's constantly make changes - that's a part of life. If the money was good - especially in the "tanked" economy - there was no reason to leave that gig and switch to Henderson...my child - what were you thinking!?!?!?
And I say that you must work in the office there, because:
A. See the above paragraph...it makes no sense.
B. You're so quick to dismiss ANYTHING negative that I say about Henderson.
C. Every reply you send has that "Rah, Rah, Rah - Go Henderson" tone to it.
D. To be honest, of all the people that have posted on this subject, you're the ONLY one to come back constantly, claiming that I don't know what I'm talking about! What about the others here that had bad experiences at Henderson - are you saying they didn't know what they were talking about, either?
Henderson fit my personality perfectly, again - until they screwed me over.
Once again: They ###### me, there was no reason for it, and no matter how happy YOU are there, it did happen, and I'm not the only one it happened to, and I'm positive that I won't be the last. There were NO outlying circumstances, I had a perfect logbook, I was always on time, I always passed DOT inspections, I never got any tickets - I was the perfect angel. I had no problem staying in the truck for a month at a time - so long as they're going to let me make money. However, when they run my 1200 miles, and force me to do THREE restarts in one week (more than once) - I'm sorry, but it's time for me to go.
At least during one of the restarts, I was in the town where Buddy Holly played his last gig before he died, and I got to see the ballroom (it's still there, and still open to the public!), so at least I did get some sight-seeing in.
As for looking forward - I'm looking forward to making more money than I ever would in a truck! In fact, I read just today that a film company is looking for extras for a movie that's being filmed locally: I think I'll sign up, and get my face in the movies! No pay, but I'll do it for the fun of it.
I hope that you and Josh are very happy together, but I have far better things to do with my time these days - like, enjoying life.

You seem so bitter why don't you find me 3 companies that you feel are so great and I bet i can find drivers who disagree. The more you post I can see why you didnt make it you are a miserable old coot the kind that just complains and whines. Does it bother you to see all the henderson trks roaring by running the miles? It probably does cause it reminds you that you didnt make it buddy. I bet when you are around the few friends you have you still talk about what happened to you. What were yuou doing before you came to Henderson? Probably being a nag somewhere. Say whatever you like I am here and you are not I get home whenever i like and get the miles. Call it being a kiss butt I call it getting paid. You are the dude that argues with dispatch and than wonders where the miles are. I believe drvrs should get a fair shake wherever they work, but I also know you cannot be fighting the establishment. Let me get this straight it's Hendersons fault you could not pay ur bills or have a laptop to do them ontime. You should know as OTR drvr hometime is not guaranteed on specific dates. DO NOT MAKE YOUR PROBLEM HENDERSONS PROBLEM

dont drink the kool-aid !!
-
Hey bud no kool aid for me strictly MT DEW if when the day comes that a carrier or company is not working for me than its time to move on not still be whining about a company for 2 yrs get over it
-
I was thinking about this post while doing something else...
I even cancelled my subscription to this thread...
but I just kept thinking about certain sentiments expressed here..expecially the above...
Life, and living...
I'm not on anyones side...
For some find adventure over the road as 'life and living'....but to others it's a 'prison'...
![[IMG]](proxy.php?image=http%3A%2F%2F1.bp.blogspot.com%2F_x2iRsQQeo88%2FS7c_DwvwhII%2FAAAAAAAAAXw%2F2mHeWh_1XK4%2Fs320%2Fprison_bars203_203x152.jpg&hash=2617d484199791a7c46f283bcc035410)
It all so depends on where your at personally in life...and each ones on personal circumstances...
But when you mentioned the movie extra thing, and the Buddy Holly thing...
It just reminded me of all the things I missed out on...or drove past, but couldn't participate in...
Moments times and opportunities I can never recapture...
But there's always tomorrow...but mentally, you'll never be in the place to enjoy or recieve, as you were in your youth...
(I doubt this makes sense to you)...
Guy...just be happy, and do what your good at...
Trucking is good for some, and terrible for others...
If you already have a full complete life...there's no need to jump into trucking...
Trucking will only alienate, isolate, and take you away from that...
Summer barbe cues at home, the aroma of steak and charcoal...
![[IMG]](proxy.php?image=http%3A%2F%2Fi.ehow.com%2Fimages%2Fa04%2Fr9%2Fi3%2Fplan-successful-backyard-bbq-800x800.jpg&hash=ce70fd4bbcdc14f2335dfd34110975ba)
The aroma of steak, B-BQ and friends and beer...
Trucking tends to deprive you of that...
But at the same time...that's what makes me honor those who do sacrifice home time, to deliver freight...cause as one who has done it...I realize what they sacrifice...
And although they may not like me, they are still 'warriors'...
Stuff has to be delivered...those steaks arrived on a truck...
Anyhow...not sure what I'm trying to say...
Other than things will be ok for you... -
Well said ...
This thread is about a driver who I believe got bad treatment and one who defends going team ... To make
Neither is wrong ... One just did what they had to do the other wasn't going to do what was not proposed at orientation or truck lease signing
No need to have a pissing contest !!! You both did what you had to do or what was best for YOUR operation ... Or YOUR views
I personally drive tank and have no iron in the fire but from reading this I thought I'd put my 2-cents in . I'm a O/O also as both of you KINDA are the difference is this
A Lease Purchase Deal benefits the company plan and simple its a NO WIN in MOST cases for the driver ( no all but most ) when you LEASE or AKA : FLEASE ( there is a reason it's called that ) the company tempts you with that brand new shinny truck which does what ? - UPGRADES their FLEET at YOUR EXPENSE ... When you fail and 85% do they resale the truck to the next driver wanting a shinny new seat ... Some companies make more money RESELLING trucks than pulling freight and you the Lease Driver pays all the IFTA - Plate - insurances - Maint - Fuel - and Tires etc ... While they provide the trailer And maybe Reefer fuel if your lucky ...
My Reccomendation is that if you want to be a O/O go buy your truck from an outside vendor your self ... 5,000 down you can buy a 25-30k truck in solid shape easy might take 7k
My question to each of you and a closing statement
1. If you don't make it on your LP can you move the truck to a different company ? Answer - NO
2. Is it realist set up for your benefit ? NO
3. What's the success rate and also what's the balloon at the end ?
If you have the same answer as I put above and had to COVERT to TEAM to make it then are you making the best choice for YOU
Only YOU... Can answer that !!!
Wish you both success -
Thxs Kentucky24 for your comments I will answer a few of ur questions. Yes you can take thge truck to another carrier providing they have a satisfactory safety rating of 97, ability and willingness to electronically deduct your trk pmt wkly and the new carrier would have to be willing to put up a 15k deposit which is because the original carrier was the one that acquired the equipment originally and needs to protect their investment. As for my balloon pmt at the end which is 17 mos away I will only owe $5000 which every drvr will have due to the escrows we deposited at the beginning, by the way which you get back whether you complete or not, I lease here cause I enjoy the freedom of the loads I want although I hardly ever have had to refuse any loads due to the relationship and understanding I have with my DM. No we don pay fore reefer fuel
-
Then I retract the NO answer I stated about not being able to take the truck with you ... However a 15k deposit is steep price to move the truck but I do understand the satisfactory rating in order to move it ..
I do have another question if you don't mind answering
What's your total fixed costs weekly ? -
Fixed cost is about $750. a week after your escrows are paid. A solo driver has to run about 1500 miles a week to break even. I run teams and get about 6000 miles a week some weeks more some weeks less because I go home for bout 5 or 6 days a month.
-
I'm not saying that running teams is a bad thing, what I'm saying is that you shouldn't have to be forced into it, to make a living even if under a lease purchase. Henderson never implied that would be a must.
As for fixed costs of $750 a week...you're not factoring in fuel here. That easily doubles your weekly expenses with today's fuel prices.
So far as the pissing contest is concerned, I worked for Knight Transport as a company driver, ran Elogs the whole time, and still took home $800-$1000 per week, and had regular days off every week. Same goes for the company I was with before Henderson (which I left because I didn't dig slip-seating). Why wouldn't Henderson give me the same treatment? I don't know.
And no, Texasbound - I'm not one of those drivers that cries to the company every 5 minutes. In fact, so long as I have 1-2 preplans on the board, they have to call me, because I'm busy making money!
YOU are the one that seems bitter, because you can't accept that a company that you're happy with has screwed over others.
Oh - when I was at Henderson, they wouldn't let you take the truck to another company until it was paid off - and they wouldn't let you take out a loan to pay it off early! As Kentucky 24 said - you're upgrading their fleet for them: they're NOT going to let you take that truck away so easily.
Kentucky24: I don't know if you read it, but the Cascadia that I got was a '09 that they purchased in '08: they also failed to disclose to me, that it had been wrecked! So, whilt it appeared to be a nice shiny new truck, it wasn't.
