I'm not sure if I have a governor issue or what. On a good day my work truck will do 65/70 mph which is the speed limit in my surrounding hwys. Anyhow, here lately I've been having issues just doing 55-60mph. The other day I made a run from Pecos Tx to Midland Tx (90m miles) and couldn't do any faster than 60mph...even on a down slope. The truck maintained this speed in 10th gear # 1500rpms. Then one time I could only get it to do 45mph in a 70mph zone at 1500rpms and in 9th gear. I'm not looking to speed but at least do the speed limit as not to get ran over. One thing I noticed is I do get a flashing amber dash light when this happens...it's not a check engine light.

We did a PM ( change oil and filters) but no luck.

its not the Governor. So from what you are saying when you are in 10th gear your truck only runs 45? Also you said "couldn't do any faster than 60mph...even on a down slope" is your engine break on? And from what i seen: some trucks do go 45mph in 9th gear depending on what trans you got. Got to give more specifics...

could also be brakes not releasing 100% check for air leaks, and wear in brake system

Seeing how it will limit RPMs to 1500, it sounds as if the engine is derating or going into the "limp home" mode and limiting power and RPMs. Probably a dirty or bad speed sensor.

    Sorry,

It's a 94' Pete Bobtail fuel tanker (twin rear axles). Now this limit on toms and loss of power or mph doesn't happen all the time. I was able to do 65mph to work today no problem.

Start with the cheap and easy stuff. Change your fuel filters. Check your air filters.

Worthless thread! I guess we should assume your truck engine is WHAT?
