If they CATCH a shop taking one of the channelized "10 Meter" radios and converting it to operate on 27 MHZ, FCC WILL cite/fine them. If they are caught modifying (whack-packing, increasing power, clipping limiters), FCC will cite and fine them. Radioactive already PAID one fine for this a few years back, I seem to recall. And the feds are not averse to setting up a "sting" by sending an agent into the store and pretending to be a customer. If the dealer offers to modify, or SELL a modified radio, the agent will cite him. If a customer BUYS said radio and operates it on 11 Meters, that customer can (will, I hope) get a fine of up to $10,000.:biggrin_2553:

ANY radio for CB radio use MUST be "certificated" for such use, must NOT be modified in any way, must operate ONLY on the 40 pre-selected channels designated for CB. There must be a sticker on the radio with an FCC approval number thereon. Period. The so-called "10 Meter" radios, with the "bands" of channels have NO such sticker!!!!!! And as such may NOT be used. In NO WAY do they meet the requirement of Part 95. People need to READ those rules and follow them. If they want DX, and "skip" and "extra" channels, they should get the amateur license!

Sites that essentially 'carry messages' are too large for the responsible party to continually police.
Craigslist as a service provider (of messages) would claim 'safe harbor'.
Only obligation is to remove the material within a reasonable time after being notified. Ebay's could do the same, and their policies are based on political correctness and risk abatement. They find it easy and cost-free to involve the users as a 'secret police' force to inform them of items that are against their policies. I would not doubt that those who make and sell the so-called "export" radios and "CW transmitters (CB linears)" would routinely inform ebay in order to stifle the sales of used equipment and reduce the opportunities for their competitors as well.

On a side note, I discussed the 'sweet sixteen' with Texas Star. It's a class AB amplifier with eight 2SC2879 transistors and costs a lot less than a 'ham' unit. 800W for about $600. I had considered getting one and improving it for ham use because ham mobile amplifiers are priced out of reason. I was informed that it will not perform well below 24MHz due to input VSWR issues and the transformers are not "tuned" (he said) for lower frequency operation (<21MHz). That is a pity. With a little more cost and care, it might have been a nice amp for 160-10 HF mobile use after some additional work.

Please.......give it a rest ALREADY. Your nagging and preaching isnt winning any points for the HAM COMMUNITY.
I just joined this Forum and found your incessant ramblings to be in bad taste and for the most part, unwelcome.
I have enjoyed CB since I was a kid in the 70's and still like to play RADIO with it. I observe all of the rules, try to be helpful on the air, especially when I'm on the road, for local traffic info.
Yes, I do get stomped on by some yahoo's 1000 watt linear on occasion, but I find that simply pressing the OFF BUTTON works really well, too
Stay out of the ham bands? I agree. That is a wasteland of endless "NETS" where old farts exchange stories about their latest colonoscopy, or meaningless "CONTESTS" where the goal is to spend several thousand dollars on equipment to be told that "YOU ARE 599" into BFE.
Most of us here are BIG BOYS and dont need our "MOMMY" to tell us what right and wrong is.
ONe last thing - my friend will be bringing over his 10 meter RAAADDEEOOO later to play with. Please don't pop a cork.

On the other hand, I will welcome any CONSTRUCTIVE information or ADVICE that you or anyone else can give to promote this great hobby.

    AB7IF Thanks this.

You can yell at my grandfather for this one.. but I have an older cobra base station CB from the 70s.. receipt and all. They also have the list mods.. flip a switch and you get channels 41-80.. flip it the other and its -39 to 0.. flip another switch you get the 10m band but in RX only, no TX.

No even sure if it still works but I remember listening to the 10m using his 30' tower in the back yard, seeing how far away I could pick a transmission up
