Kentucky 24, I am looking at getting on as a student at the Memphis Terminal for Superior Carriers. I have called and talked with them to see if they would be interested once I get through school and the said yes. What can you tell me about superior as a company driver? Would this be a good option for me to start out? What kind of loads, hometime, and etc. would I be dealing with here? I would appreciate any information you can give me!
Kentucky 24 is # TRIMAC ( tanker yanker )

Most companies ( Trimac does ) pays you after 2 hrs what they call Deimurge so your on the clock ... But most loads come off in 1 hr to 1.5 for the most part -

Superior is a good company but personally I left the Memohis terminal after 2 .5 years roughly of service due to mis management ( at the terminal ) I won't do allot of bad mouthing but I'd talk to a few drivers before I did ... There is a driver they call "Spanky" there he will shoot you strait then that decision would be yours .
Superior is a GREAT company hands down ... Simply put I had terminal problems .. Etc , pay , scanning , just typical internal management things not being done correctly ...
This could have changed by now ... Not sure but I can tell you when I left last Sept I been told 2 or 3 others did also but like I said I'm not sure about what goes on there to date ...
Loads :
Magnolia Arkansas runs to 7 designations
Ca, IL , GA , TN , OH
CIBA now BASF ... To various locations mainly .. SC , NC , Canada
Penn Khem - to .. IA , MS ( or LA ) can't remember
Lots of local ISO work to rails ( stay away from that as as a Company driver .. No pay in it just hourly and not much for the work involved on the ISO in Memphis
It's a head ache ... Trust me
PMC : to Various locations : NC , WV , NJ , SC , NC
That's bout it ... Best of luck to you and I'm not trying to steer you away from SPCR but you asked so I gave my opinion .. Any where else in SPCR than terminal 050 ( Memphis ) I'd say Gooooooooooooo ... Run ... Take that job ... SPCR is great
But at Memphis (050) just do your home work
Enough said ...
But I enjoyed my time at Superior Carriers just not at Memphis -

Also on the training end of Superior Carriers I'll have to defer to Wsyrob , he started as a driving school grad back a little over 3 yrs ago at SPCR he's out of High Point terminal I think or Greer
They have a great training program which is at the Greer SC terminal it's a week long then you would do terminal level training with who ever the trainer is at Memphis now .. ( not sure ) Frank or Robert I think ..
Check out Wsyrob he has a thread I think called
From school to Superior Carriers ...
Best of luck to you -
Appreciate all the feedback Kentucky 24! I have read all of Wysrob's threads and posts on here I think. They were very informative also.
I have been in and around trucks my entire life. My dad has been an owner op for 40+ years and I am only 32. Lots of ppl don't understand why I want to go the company driver route vs. owner op, but to me the company benefits far outweigh paying your on way on health insurance and such. Like I mentioned, I am 32, single, no kids... etc. I want to get into tanks, do several years otr and then maybe look at getting into some sort of local tanking such as fuel hauling.
I realize there may be drawbacks to the Memphis terminal, but I really have no desire to pull van, reefer, or flatbed for some of these crackerjack outfits out there as a newbie.
I feel like tanking is a niche segment of trucking compared to the rest and gives me the best opportunity to succeed vs. the rest of the industry. My dad has had me tarping and securing flatbed loads since I was about 12 years old whenever he loaded locally. I am not the least bit lazy, but I have no desire to pull flatbed.
I appreciate all you guys do giving insight to those of us on the outside looking in! -
Tom Shepard and the driver trainers are good folks at Bayport. Tom will take the class to lunch everyday and the travelers will get a good motel.
I'd still be there if weren't for the issue I had with the payroll folks.... -

I spoke to the terminal manager today in Portage. He promised me I would bring home at least $700.00 a week. It is (of course) 2nd shift starting at 2 or 3 pm. They are 10-12 hour shifts. One route is up and back to Michicgan twice for loading. The second is the Nipsco 4 stops and then a place three miles away 10 stops a day. He said they pay percentage and it would be 180.00 - 200.00 a day. It seems it would be more if they pay percentage. I guess it depends on the product your hauling. I go in tomorrow at 8 for a face to face and road test. -
