It's a good choice if you are unable to pay for the cost of training on your own or obtain some government aid (WIA grants). Just make sure you know:
- If you get fired for whatever reason you owe the money
- If you quit, you owe the money
- If you can no longer work because of some medical issue, you owe the money
Expect to be away from home quite a bit and depending on the company the wages may be lower. In the end, when you complete the employment agreement, you will owe no money for schooling and will be able to transition into better opportunities. What company will be picking you up? -
The biggest drawback to a company school is that you are lock in to that company for a year (sometimes more). If there is any way possible to get your CDL without going through a company, you should explore it, that way you are not beholden to anyone.
-
so I wouldnt have to pay ?
-
I went with Roehl, you are offered a job upon completion of school ( not guaranteed but #### near) and if you don;t work for them, you have to pay the bill for the school, which was a lot cheaper than anything near me. Pay is on the high side for a newbie. Plus it is a good school. Only problem is I am not sure if it is accredeted.
-
Roehl is one I am really consedring.
-
Well SOME companies don't deduct the cost of training from your paycheck, others do. So whether you pay or not depends on the company you go with.
-
Like they said, you do lock yourself into the company for a "x" amount of time. Be sure to ask the questions before signing anything. Roehl is a company I am wanting to go with as well, so far they are my number 1 choice. But I do have back ups, and as should you.
Cheryl (Recruiter) from Roehl was extremely helpful for me. If you call their # the ext for her is 2113. People might recommend other recruiters but she helped me out a ton. Make sure you ask about cost if you can not work for them / quit before completion. So you know what you could possibly owe back. -
Thanks Lantern I will check that out and call about them. I also got prime on my mind cause they got flats and tankers those to things I wanna get into.
-
Prime from my understanding is a great company. But of course every company has their ups and downs. It's how you view it that makes all the difference.
