Stirring up the tank has no difference if you vehicle is running or not. It doesn't cause any vapors to escape to be a hazard. The file pipe is cut at an angle to help reduce any debris plus it sits off the bottom by a few inches. However, I wouldn't get gasoline at the station while a tanker truck is there unless I knew the station. I've got to know if they change their filters so if I don't I just go to the next station.

That is a new one on me.

Ps, the best time to check the oil is first thing in the morning or when the vehicle has been parked a few hours or longer. The reason is all the oil will be the oil pan for an accurate reading instead of some of it spread all through out the motor.

Well shut it down normally. Just yesterday I wake up from a little sleeper time to find my gauge at 10 volts. It wouldnt start. Had a gentleman jump me with his pick up and idled her up. Didnt wanna charge. Knew my alternator was gone so I fired up my APU to charge my batteries a little. Had to run my APU all day to get the truck home. On the way to the yard I stopped for fuel left the truck idle as well as my APU and got some funny looks. Sometimes theres a reason for things that dont seem right, or you woldnt do unless put in the position to understand WHY. The majority of us dont think that way and just criticize...

    Proven definitively to be FALSE.

A cell phone WILL NOT cause a fire or ignite gas vapors.

Many years back (Jan 4, 1974), up home in Saint John NB Canada, we had a service station explode. No, not burn down and not just a little bang. The explosion was felt clear across the city. Nothing but rubble left.

What happened was this.... the place also serviced trucks. After doing an oil change the young service guy backed the truck out and backed into and over one of the pumps; shearing off the delivery line. The pump attendant immediately threw the main breaker switch and shut off power.

Unfortunately, nobody told him there was another separate panel in the basement which controlled the furnace. While they were cleaning up topside and calling fire dept, the furnace kicked on. The phone call was never completed. 5 people killed.

I had gone past this place about 2 hrs previous.

People, this new diesel with all it's additives is getting pretty close to gasoline in it's volatility. Certainly alot closer than the older diesel was.

Do what you want, but I'm not gonna be the moron who hurt a bunch of people because I was too lazy to shut the #### truck off.

Just curious, how many big trucks has burned down so far while left running while refueling?

I was looking up some gas station explosions etc and ran across a few that involved spillage. People left their cars running and spilled fuel. This fuel was ignited some how by reaching the catalytic converter. Another thing is the vapors from gasoline is what makes it dangerous and that the spark from and alternator could ignite them. These examples are focused primarily on gasoline. I'm still looking into diesel trucks.

Mythbusters couldnt get a cell phone to cause a gas fire. And I dont think Ive ever heard of a diesel fire while the truck was idling, diesel isnt very flammable, thats why it takes such a huge squeeze to fire it.
