Are those numbers off the dash readout or is it actual miles divided by gallons used? You havent had any problems with emmissons yet?

Just curious, which do you take more to heart..dash readings or the actual pump readings?

I used to say pump readings, but then a few weeks ago, I fueled up the truck to the normal spot i would stop at. Then I slowly added 6 more gallons, and guess what, it was still at the same spot! So I just toss the pump readings out now, as you can easily pump 6-8 more gallons for each tank than you did the last fill-up.

The ECM will tell you the EXACT amount of fuel your engine burned per mile it rode. So i throw my trust into the ECM readings.

But still, 7.2 is AMAZING!!! Granted he doesn't have DEF, the 2010 is still a DPF system.

I always thought the old fashioned way was more reliable, the ecm doesnt always measure the volume of fuel used accurately.

Well, if i go by my Datastar, and then the actual gallons I put into the truck, it is usually about a 5 gallon difference, but on 1000 miles, it really does not make a huge difference. You may be off by 1/10th on your MPG, but from what I have been told, the computer does a better job, but then again, that was from the CAT dealer who was selling me a product.

That is taking the amount of miles I drove since last fillup and dividing by the amount of gallons I pumped to fill it back up. No problems with emissions at all so far. It does not use the diesel exhaust fluid but it does have the regeneration system.

My truck now is a 03 T600 pre egr cummins isx. Im just a little hesitant to part with it,because of the emissions on the newer trucks, but ive got to do something in the near future as i have 890000 on it now. Thought about just keeping it and doing Overhaul in the future, but you still got the rearends, transmission, etc. Just dont know if i want to sink that much money in it.

Completely false. The truck only measures the number of rotations on its drive axle to establish distance traveled and is thus always inaccurate. As your tires wear down this will fluctuate quite a bit, and it will also fluctuate in cold weather vs warm weather.

The only real way to measure is total fuel cost divided by total distance covered over time. How you measure the latter is up to you (you might use a GPS for instance).

I was told that the Datastar actually measured the fuel passed thru the injectors, but lord only knows. I do know that after driving, my MPG will be say 5.8 and after I idle all night, it reads say 5.4.... so it did measure the idle time, and the wheels were not moving.

Anyways, I still seem to think that these trucks will be better than my position I am in now. I am also hesitant on the DEF system since it is new, and have been told that if I get a truck that runs the DPF (REGEN) system, to get a 2009-2010 as the earlier 07-08 engines have a lot of bugs in them that were fixed in prior years.

I am also seriously contemplating a Fitzgerald Coronado as it is MUCH cheaper than a new T660 and it still has the Pre-Emissions engine with the same full warranty as a new truck.

I looked at those the only bad thing is you cant get financing on a glider kit, its considered a part and has to be paid up front.

Yes you can. Call them up, they finance thru Freightliner (Dymler Chrysler)

I am already pre-approved on one but just haven't pulled the trigger yet. Kind of in the same boat as you, since my truck will be paid off in less than 9 months, I'm not sure if I want another payment.
