Thanks for the replies. How about TMC can they have put unsatisfactory for getting cut for poor shifting? Western express flatbed also said I didn't need to take a refresher. Most said 40hrs. I read somewhere on here that after 3years you have to start all over. But I'm going to save the money and take me a refresher.

I left TMC orientation on my own after 4 days of it and then went to Roehl a month later in early 2008. I am now a local driver and out of curiosity ordered my free DAC last month to see what either company may have put on it... nothing on there from up and leaving TMC after 4 days. Nothing at all, just FYI hope this might alleviate any fears you might have.

Goodluck shifting, FYI if you go on a roadtest in a 13 or 18 in the future, you need not split the gears, you have enough to worry about in your roadtest, just shift normally and if you can drive you'll do fine...

I'm no expert on the subject, but it seems a bit ridiculous to require you to take a 40 hour refresher course. When a company requires it, it's typically for an experienced driver who has been out of it for a while (or a local driver who hauled loads these companies would run away scared from, but for whom that experience doesn't count because they didn't have to run a logbook during that time). You, on the other hand, don't have experience, and wouldn't be hired on as an experienced driver. You'd have to go out with a trainer, the same as someone fresh out of school would.

Maybe not. The selection process is tough, but if he can clear the hoops maverick does not require a refresher. Just have to have a CDL. He had problems with TMC's 13 speeds. Maverick is also automatics. He would need to go out with a trainer tho.

Well, that is the point... its going to be difficult, especially with little to no experience. I imagine the road test would be quite a hurdle - especially with the difficulty shifting.

His thing seems to be that he didn't know a 13 speed, as he'd only ever driven a 10 before. Which, I can understand. Whenever I drive a ten, it takes some getting used to. Not having shifted in two years, when his only experience shifting was in school, however, might be a bit of a hurdle for him to overcome, though.

Yes I was pretty good with a 10 speed. And did good on my road test. But the 13 speed had me all messed up. Western call me today and said everything looked good and would love to hire me. There wan't anything bad on my DAC or other records. She said I wouldn't take a road test till I get off the road with my Trainer. They will just put me put on the simulator to see where I'm at. Does anybody now if this is true?
Maverick sounds better but I don't think they hire in my area. -
A 13 Speed is no harder to run than a 10 speed!
If you can run the 10 speed fine dont be worried about a 13 spd.
Just do as you would with the 10 ,pull out in 2 or 3 shift to 4.
Pull the switch to high and shift 5,6,7,8 .
Just relax look at the difference and take it easy.
Not all as complicated as some think .
