If you get a portable one you only need to vent the hot air outside. ( or you will defeat the purpose of the unit.). Mine has a flex hose and with a few minutes in the garage and a piece of 1x6 i make a nice window adaptor for mine. doesnt look the best but , I don't car how it looks only that it works. Looking pretty doesnt put money in the bank.

brycey1, how on earth does that extra tank get fuel to the generator? meathead says it has to be gravity fed, he must be wrong.

Only certified units are allowed this. You have to show the document when it becomes an issue.

Only violations I have ever had (2) have been for over weight. First one was 220 on tandems many years ago. Recently for 530 on drives (no ticket) and the gut next to me was 220 over on drives (he got a ticket because he was acting like an A-hole while lady ahead of me over 1,200 and I got warning
). So yes it happens.
Learned about the certificate at this time as well. I did not have one but still would have got the warning. -
I see where OOIDA has 40% grant rebate on new APU's.

Ac draws a lot of amps. Would probably kill the batteries pretty quick.

I have a Yamaha EF2000is, mounted in a custom made box on the frame rail. Runs right in the box. The box has removable cutouts on it that vent the exhaust and allow incoming air for cooling. Generator stays nice and cool and secure and protected from weather. I use a Xantrex inverter / charger that the generator powers when I stop and it supplies 50 amps to the batteries to keep them fresh. Inverter part runs off batteries other times or the power from the generator is passed thru when hooked up. I can run that and keep a oil pan heater powered on the engine during cold times, and oil flows nice and warm on the coldest days and the engine starts fine even when not using the block heater. heat rises out of the oil pan and keeps engine in good starting shape. There is little power draw not he generator for all of this and it can run at lower speed and gets almost a full 10 hour break done on a gallon of gas. A webasto heater takes care of winter. I spec'd the Arctic insulation package along with the premium noise abatement insulation package when I ordered my truck, so that takes care of much of the hot or cold weather stuff. Still tossing around ideas on air conditioning, but I stay primarily in the upper midwest year round, so there are only a few days a year that AC would make a difference. Windows in the sleeper, window screens in the cab doors, and a couple of good fans does a pretty good job for me for most days in the summer.
