How many straps, chains, etc. are you all carrying? What all should be purchased before hitting the road?

Yep, have the strap roller too. Hard hat and vest is standard about anywhere these days.

Good lord that's a lot of equipment! Having never uses them before I've got to ask: what are the plastic edge protectors used for vs the metal? Always just figured an edge protector was an edge protector. When hauling lumber are you expected to have your own stickers or is it generally provided? Is lumber generally a decent paying load? It looks like the loads closest to my house that would get me out of here are mostly going to be lumber unless I drive a couple more miles deadhead. I'm starting to get really excited about gearing up for all of this but I feel like I've got a lot more to learn between now and loading out for my first run and I've been here trying to get all my questions answered for about a year now! Guess some things are a little mysterious until you take the plunge!

Plastic is when your straps, the metal ones are for steel. You only use them when you have sharp corners/edges so they don't cut the straps. The metal ones are use for chains and keeps from bending/crimpping the steel.
