Go to fedex I worked for central for a year and although I worked all year around !! The company ain't sht !! The equipment ain't sht ! My terminal manager TOM WILLIAMS out of the jessup,md terminal definately ain't sht !! The insurance plan if you can find some one who won't laugh at u and ask what ins compnay is this !! Ain't sht !!! They don't stand for their drivers at all !!! But fedex has treated me pretty good and with all the benefits that come along with the are great and plus you would be starting as a linehaul driver too shddddd that's where the money is in freight. Oh yeah fedex is the wayyyyyy better choice

He's talking about Ground, which really isn't working for fedex, it's driving for a contractor

That's still good working for ground. Well I guess it depends on what the o/o pays.

only thing about fedex ground is if your working for the contractor most only pay straight salary. I worked for straight salary when i used to do p/d and i work about 70 hrs a week for slave pay. not to sure hoe the linehaul works but if anything its a good stepping stone for you to get experience so you can go elsewhere or even move to fedex freight. not to sure if the contractor offers benefits but most dont.

I've worked for a contractor for fed ex ground for 6 mo. now. This is a tough one you get some good contractors and some that keep terrible equipment and pay poor wages.I would definitly interview the contractor more than he interviews you.

i know exactly what you mean, i would start my day at 7:30 and wouldnt get back till 8 or later that night for 150 a day, and since its straight pay i never got overtime. My boss was extremely lazy, he gave me and his other driver all his p/us and deliveries as well, which made no sense cuz my area was 20 min away from his. Also some people didnt want the late or bulky pickups and hed take it in a sec jus for the money then make us do it. I however kept my truck and equipment in fairly good shape(although his truck kept havin problems and wouldnt fix it) SO be careful on who you work for. I know ur doing linehaul instead, not too sure how it works but make sure the contractor doesnt try to take too much advantage over you like mine did

I don't know how Fed Ex Ground is but if you're working for FedEx Freight god forbid you make a mistake. They don't take care of their employees the way they claim to.

$12.86 per hour (straight time) is the result of $900/wk divided by 70 hrs/wk... Wow, 0400 to 1800 is a long day indeed considering it's bedtime, or nearly so, by the time you get home all five days! You'd think they'd pay more for such slavery. Oh, wait, i just broke out the dictionary and looked up the word "slave", so disregard that.

Fedex varies by contractor, as the poster above said ask questions, what is his average fleet age etc
I worked for fedex for over a year now All our trucks are 5-10 years old but are in excellent shape, if its broke we fix it immediately or if possible wait till the weekend to drop off at the shop. I run the linehaul extra/leftover board and I fair well as my tractor has the most points so priority comes my way however my contractor had so much bad luck with employees runnign mileage pay and getting screwed he made a deal to keep me and it works, I get a minimumguaranteed salary of 800.00 a week but if my miles equate to over 800.00 i obviously get paid for them, I think I only got my minimum 2 times and that was due to snow storms this past year, but I went out in them against my wifes judgement. But being 1 of 50 drivers in our terminal to show up and grab a run really scored me points with the linehaul manager :biggrin_25519:

    from a monetary stand point 60 hours a week for 800 is 13.3 a hour vrs 70 hours a week at 900 is 12.85 a hour

so with fed ex you get a higher hourly rate for no touch freight vrs loading and unloading your truck for 12.85 a hour
