Although I don't agree with Tazz's rather lack of compassion, I also can fully understand where he's coming from, when it comes to personal responsibility. I've worked at 2 outfits so far, and both have said to idle as needed. No real restrictions. So, I idle as needed. Which seems to be less than most trucks I come in contact with. Tazz is right, in that no one is forced to work for someone. Before starting with any company, do your due diligence, and talk to plenty of their current drivers. Then, you'll know if you want to work for them or not.
No APU, 5 minute idle, 90+ degrees - is this legal?

I love my A/C but would I die without it? probably not, I would just be alot sweatier and smellier. If someone was willing to pay me more money to drive a truck without A/C and powersteering I would do it in a heartbeat. I go to work to make money, If I could make more to have less comfort I would rather quickly, I go home for my comfort. Guess thats why I drive local.

You are all too willing to bend over and let the company shove it in a little deeper at the expense of your quality of life and possible well being!
This is exactly why the companies get away with abusing their drivers and if one person (like me, for example) even THINKS about questioning the immoral, unethical, or illegal practices of the ALMIGHTY COMPANY, you guys are quick to beat us down or shame us into silence! And you wonder why this industry is being taken over by immigrants, steering wheel holders, and the dregs of society??? It's because all the smarter people see and understand the handwriting on the wall and got (or are getting) the ###### out!!!

If I don't like a company's policies, I move on. I don't let any company dictate what I'm willing to do or not do. If they decide to enact restrictions I don't like, my notice will be put in, and I'll be leaving. Simple as that. -

It's SO frikkin easy to get info on any company out there - just do a google search and you can get reviews on clam chowder at some obscure place in Massachusetts... you can certainly find info on a trucking company.Last edited: May 30, 2011

Change jobs more than 3 times in one year and let me know how that works out for you!
The only job you will be able to get is with some rag tag fly by night outfit driving junk and more problems than you can shake a stick at.
Face it, no good company will touch you if you job hop. Then you'll become one of THOSE drivers that come here to complain about how poorly you are treated. -
I have a couple pieces of good Ash kicking around from making handle blanks. You want I should send them on up to NY with some cut nails so you can do a proper job of this?
If you would pay attention (or maybe it is a comprehension failure) I nor anyone has advocated working for someone like that. And that it is incumbent on you the driver to make the decisions about whom you seek employment from.
I know not quite as melodramatic as you seem to want, but that is what this discussion boils down to. Is a driver is willing to for go some comfort to keep his job? And how much is the driver willing put up with.
All the rest is the realm of Jerry Springer, and Guiding Light. Since you have left trucking perhaps a writer for those types shows? I will concede you have a penchant for the over dramatic. -
I'm sure not into any male porn stuff, but I'd still like to see some of these behemoths trying to get their pants on in a cabover. Assuming they ever do that, of course. I really think a lot of these guys sleep and drive in the same clothes for days and days at a time.
But, still - seeing some of these guys trying to maneuver their big ### over the doghouse to get in the bunk would be good for a lot of laughs. And what about the 30" crawl-thru's? I'm sure some of you new guys have never even seen those, but there's no way they'd ever get in that bunk. Some of these guys today are actually bigger than the whole freakin' sleeper in those trucks.Lux Prometheus and ronin Thank this.
