Here I sit on 30 may 2011(mon) # star's(of nashville tn)atlanta yard(a dirt parking lot). I have now been sitting here mt for 4 straight days. This company is the worst I have ever been with..and I've got 20 years experience in this industry. Living in florida and sitting in the atlanta ga yard for 4 dam days. The pay is horrible..they top out at 35cpm..my pay is 33.5...who the hell pays 33cpm nowadays. Moral here is terrible..low pay, you only get home every 2-3 weeks now, not the every wknd they say in their ads and on their website. Seriously consider other companies before you come here. I've been here well over 3 yrs and this was the last straw...tomorrow morning I'm telling my dispatcher to give me load up to nashville tn to our main yard to turn in my truck. I can make more $$ as a greeter in walmart. Sorry sorry sorry excuse for a trucking company. Oh just a note..their turnover rate has exceeded 95% every year I've been here. They lose about 5-9 drivers per week for 1)low pay,2)no home time,3)back office & payroll personell who could care less about you. Family atmospere... my ###. I put star on par with swift, werner and us express as the bottom of the sewer in trucking companies. LOOK AT ALL OTHER COMPANIES BEFORE MAKING A MISTAKE AND COMING HERE.

Sorry to hear they've fallen so far. I've done three tours with them, the last ending in 2004 (pre-Covenant buyout) and never had a real issue with them, leaving only for what I thought would be greener pastures.
But with 20 years of experience, I'm just curious why you would settle for the pay you're getting, although I understand living in FL can limit your choices. You also say 20 years, but your bio says 15, and you live in MS, not FL (just curious)
Good luck to you! (BTW...where is their Atlanta lot now? Used to be on the south side, shared with one of the LTL carriers, just across from the military base.) -
I'm a little confused...With all of the issues that you've been reporting why would have stuck it out for the last 3 yrs? With 95% turnover every yr you've been there it leads me to think that you like mediocrity. With as many yrs of experience that you have it seems like you would've been linked to an outfit that would've had higher starting pay or maybe percentage. The issues you speak of were red flags from the beginning. This next time around definitely try to find somewhere that respects their senior drivers, has a decent starting wage and wont have you sitting for 4 days geez! Wish you the best going forward!

@48packard and heirforce1...I hadn't changed my profile in past 2 years so that's reason for differant states. I didn't mention that 2 yrs ago we took paycuts, 2 to be exact. I've stayed here, 1 because floridas employment status is so bad, and 2 hoping this company would give us back our regular pay like they promised in a letter to us in aug 09. Also I have really started hating this industry as a whole for the past 2 years and am pretty much at the point where I want and will retire in jan. Jumping to another company for 6 months makes no sense if I'm retiring..I just wanted to get the word out about this company. They now have their yard in a dirt lot south of i-285 in atl..been here bout a year now. They also have no more dispatchers at the atl and memphis yards. Both were fired..they also fired 1 of the 2 dispatchers at the orlando yard. Word has it that star will be going to a new yard joining covnt. in july aug.

Well best of luck going forward and sorry the experience wasn't pleasant.

Man, the timing sure is unfortunate for you, that is for sure. I didn't hear about the pay cuts, either. No matter what you do, take care, and again, best of luck to you!

They have also lost almost every dispatcher that was here when I came here. I would say 75% of the dispatchers they had have quit with a few mentioned above who were let go. Morale is the number one problem here. Its bad when drivers quit, but when dispatchers and customer service, along with upper managment people quit..you have a serious problem..all that has happened here.

I was always on pretty good terms with the management team...who is gone now?

Thnx heirforce1 and 48packard...u guys keep the shiny side up...time for me to move on to bigger and hopefully better things. I think close to 20 years in trucking is enough for me...boy do I miss the military now. When I was in u get to hate it at times, but after dealing in the trucking industey...man the military was heaven....
123456 Thanks this. -
From what I read on these forums, that seems to be the going bottom feeder rate.
Some outfits are less than that.
