Because there are an endless supply of dummies out there. I saw a craigslist ad the other day. They wanted the driver of the year practically. For .32/mile AND the first 75 miles of deadhead you drive for free. Why any good driver with experience would drive for .32 a mile completely escapes me. But there are guys all over the country doing it.

1. That is totally absurd, because of what one school district who allegedly bans lunches from home. Absurd. Trying to use one example to link some crazy conspiracy theory that Michelle Obama wants to tell everyone what to eat is absurd. We have a house and a senate that make and pass laws on both a state and federal level. Michelle Obama is not the commander of lunches. She wants everyone to eat healthy, shes NOT forcing anyone to eat healthy. If the school district made that choice with their inspiration, its not her fault. If you tell me to get a gun and I shoot someone, is it your fault?
2. I don't care what the ATA thinks. Trucking companies don't want it, because they know the shipper would simply pass it on to the carrier, they don't want that. The driver suffers. Shippers/Receivers need to become more efficient, they don't have an intensive too. I'm sure if the ATA supported a 55 MPH speed limit you'd probably be for it too, by your logic. If it wasn't the economy as an excuse for not wanting to pay drivers on the docks, it would be some other excuse. If I recall correctly, Dan England is on the board at the ATA. Do you think he cares about drivers? The ATA and OOIDA are TWO different things, can you guess which one is looking for the best interest of drivers?
3. Driver's that drive around with marker lights out, flat tires, brakes out of adjustment, defective equipment, or speed, tail gate, falsify their logs, they need to be off the road. There shouldn't be any argument over this, if you're doing what you're supposed to be doing then you have nothing to worry about. There is no excuse.
4. Your logic is absolutely piss poor. Let me explain something to you sir, being infront of a truck does NOT mean your speeding. Falling behind a truck does not mean there is not another truck behind that truck. I do do the speed limit most of the time and drive in a safe and reasonable manner. Secondly, it was an expression. Would you like to be infront of a drunk driver? Would you like to be infront of a truck with no brakes? Would you like to be infront of a truck while riding your motor cycle? Doing the speed limit does not mean a big rig is not going to tail gate me because the driver is too stupid or too lazy to move over, or too stupid to slow down and leave a space so he/she has a better chance of moving to pass.
5. Talking like a hill billy with your stupid responses does nothing to solidify any of your arguments. I wouldn't be surprised if you're one of those drivers that pollutes the air waves with jibber and nonsense.
For the record, I've driven professionally and still hold a Class A. I don't know why you try to paint me as some truck driving hating mongrel.
The world is not ending, the government is not taking away your rights, your guns, they are not forcing you to eat vegetables.

This thread has gone into the political thread territory. Lets get it back on track or shut this runaway down!
It's about Prime discriminating against "fat" people.
NOT about Mooseelle and her program for CHILDREN even though a lot of truckers can fall into that category!
Leave the politics out of it and get back on track! I just can't believe it's gone on this long as Prime doesn't really discriminate against the vertically challenged as if they did then there would be trucks parked on the lot and not driving down the road wheels turning making money.
CSA hasn't started or mandated a BMI yet because if they did then there WOULD be a driver shortage. Besides if they did then the driver I saw at the tag office down on Glenstone would be getting a refund on that tag as he was, well, to be nice, a tad bit on the XXXl side and I don't think I used enough X's in there!
At ANY truck stop out there you can see drivers of the height challenged profile wearing every company jacket out there including Prime, so, because the OP who hasn't been seen in here since 09.16.2010 the point is moot! He and she are goners, so why are we torturing everyone with the fat people question?
We know it was because Prime was being cautious about someone in their equipment so they can set any rule they want when it can affect them in the wallet which any company can be inclined to do in these days of the quick and easy law suit!
As I said a long time ago in this thread Prime is not at fault in this matter. And you all know how I feel about Lease companies! If I were to open any company and as I would do because I'm old school I would offer health insurance and because I would try to save both my company AND my employees money. My employees would have to be weight to height proportional for several reasons:
Their health,
The cost of their insurance
And their safety in the business where they worked.
Yes it can be considered discriminating but that standard is used in many fields in the work force. Still when it effects a whole group of people then it's not discriminating.
Anyway lets get this back on track! And lets hope and pray that the FMCSA doesn't pass some stupid BMI or weight limit rules as like I said they will be an awful lot of empty trucks on the roads! -
A study of crashes betwixt a car and a Big truck that resulted in a fatality were found to be the fault of the automobile driver 78% of the time. Is that a different study?
Some people are still alive only 'cause it's illegal to kill 'em.
What would happen if an employee was caught smokin' after eatin' a super-sized mega-burger with extra mayo, ..... washed down with a bottomless cup-0-soda?
Why are employers responsible for providin' health insurance, anyway? It started as an end run around a restrictive rule limiting how much an employer could pay an employee, --- to be fair, don't'cha know. The solution to an alleged problem creates another problem, arguably a worse problem, that remains today and exploited while a solution is sought to eliminate the high cost of medical insurance, which, some might say, is a direct result of government intrusion in the first place.
An arrogant and bloated government get's down on obesity.
I'm thinkin' that there's some irony in thar somewhar.
Ya reckon.
A domineering, controlling type personality who would consider resorting to the use of snide innuendos and insults as a diversionary tactic when anyone begins to make more sense than your version of correct.
But, ......... like I said, ....... that's just a quick guess.
Misscomprehension?
Is that a word
or a condition? :smt102:smt017
But your question is interesting, nonetheless.
I'm anxious to read your answer.
Where do you come up with this?
I reckon it might be my pristine Big truck truck drivin' record maintained for over one million miles. Or, ........ my attention to detail and dedication to safety, ..... along with presentin' myself in a manner that leaves customers, and the general motorin' public, with a positive impression of the company I represent as a professional Big truck truck driver.
I've been hired by every Big truck truckin' company that I applied for employment with, ......., but I never thought to ask why they chose me instead of the other applicants, ......... even, in one case, when a sign was prominently displayed in the front window that read,
"Not Hiring At This Time".
It's twue!
It's twue!
Imagine that and go figure.
And you attribute that to what?
Or whom?
What's the use?
There are none so blind as those who would lead a horse to water and still not smell the coffee brewin' over on the greener side of the fence.
Or, ....... somthin' like that.
Memory, ...................
second thang to go,
don't'cha know.

Meanwhile, those concerned with the students diet are graduating an inferior product, especially considerin' what it cost per child to educate (?) 'em.
Of all the nerve!
absurd, as well.
Shouldn't you wait 'till someone accuses her before mounting a defense?
And, ........ for the record, ...... I would never suggest that ANYone "get a gun" and "shoot someone".
That's absurd!
Hot load.
Hurry up
and wait.
Let the sufferin' begin.
Only difference is they wouldn't use the term "excuse". More than likely they'd prefer the word "reason" to describe their excuse(s). And there will be those who accept that reasoning, without question.
A. The ATA?
or
B. OOIDA?
Hmmmmmmmmm -------- :smt017:smt017
I'm gonna hafta go with
C. None of the above.
Although OOIDA presents a more convincin' front.
Those waskels!
Throw 'em all under the bus and replace 'em with those who've applied for Big truck truck drivin' trainin' out of desperation for a payin' job, ANY job, rather than any desire or aptitude for the vocation, or any incentive to be above average in their performance of duties required for a job they loathe.
But, ......... they volunteer to work cheap.
Big truck truckin' companies would be missin' an opportunity if they didn't take advantage of cheap labor when it's available and exploit the situation for all they can get. Ignorin' that oportunity just ain't considered good business sense.
That would indicate a potential difference of opinion.
Wouldn't disagreein' with you be considered a classic example of absurdity?
They might call excuses, "reasons" just to sound more justifiable.
But, they're both exactly the same,
only different.
I wonder, ............ should I be impressed?
Awwwwww, ...... how insincere of you to say something like that when you don't really mean it in a respectful way, ..... do you?
Be honest now.
Apparently the time has come to let the snide innuendos commence.
It's not like that wasn't predicted.
What surprises me the most is that you've waited this long.
Always in the way, bein' driven by unhealthy over-eaters with no concern for your fear of bein' run over by a Big truck driven by a "fat", desperate individual just tryin' to make as much money as possible while still conforming to the mandates of those who drive desks for a livin' in Washington, District of Columbia, who expect complete compliance, with severe consequences for failin' to do so, even when there's little, or no, rhyme or reason to the logic of catering to the knee-jerk, special interest groups that use campaign contributions as leverage to get their convoluted, touchy, feel good, illogical, agendas taken seriously, made mandatory, and considered an improvement as they bask in the satisfaction of accomplishing nothing, which they'll consider something.
It's a powah to control thang, ........ which you're probably well aware of.
Powah corrupts.
Absolute powah corrupts, absolutely.
But, why am I tellin' you that?
Does that mean that SOMEtimes you drive in an unreasonable, unsafe, manner? I don't know if that's acceptable. Perhaps you should refrain from drivin' entirely 'till you're able to resist the temptation to drive like an outlaw, ...... ALL of the time.
You're scarin' me here FLMan.
Obey the law(s).
All of the law(s).
Even the one's that, when followed, create an unsafe situation. It's not a Big truck truck driver's place to think or question the wisdom of those on high who make the rules and regulations. After all, doin' that ain't easy for 'em, considerin' they don't have any first-hand experience, --- give 'em a break, ......... they're just wingin' it and hopin' for the best results to take credit for, --- Which is a reason why actors make such convincin' politicians. Smoke and mirrors, bait and switch, promise and twist, fiction becomes fact while known facts are ignored, all accomplished while keepin' a straight face. The remarkable thang is, no matter how absurd and/or convoluted a politician's ideology may be, --- how many folks won't accept the reality of their actions and reactions, or lack thereof, ......... while feelin' all fuzzy and warm, convinced that they're savin' others from themselves.
Self proclaimed hero status.
Legends in their own mind, forcin' their way into the lives of others who they deem incapable of reasoning responsibly.
How absurd is that?
What I happen to be in front of is irrelevant, but I'm inclined to be more concerned when bein' followed by a more easily distracted 4-wheeler driver who is of the impression that they posses a stellar ability to drive a vehicle when, in fact, they're not as talented as they like to think they are, but would like others to believe. Believe it, or not, there are those who tend to believe their own bovine excrement. Opinionated, self-centered, vain and unwillin' to consider any other points of view, other than their's, could be valid, they're content bein' closed-minded, considerin' that to be preferable to an open mind.
But, ........ I won't tell anyone.
What would surprise me is if you were more interested in the facts and/or the truth of the matter, rather than what you'd prefer to believe, based entirely on what you imagine. All the while considering any deviation from your chosen belief and/or opinion(s) to be "stupid". Of course, after all, you're so much more intelligent than the majority of us, having given much forethought on how best to belittle those of us who you consider irrelevant. Your personality is comin' through loud and clear on this end, ....... but I seriously doubt your ability to accept that reality. Not to mention your obvious contempt and blatant prejudice toward those that you prefer to label "hill billy", merely because of their vocal, or written, manner of expressin' themselves.
That's pretty narrow-minded on your part. But you impress me as someone vain enough to shoot the messenger and ignore the message.
You do have that right.
There's no law stating that you're required to be accurate in your assessments, --- so you're safe there, as long as we have the freedom to believe whatever we want to believe, right or wrong, --- doesn't matter. What gripes many is how those who claim to champion a live and let live atmosphere are so intent on having others agree with them to the point of forcing their ideals on those who want no part of said ideals.
What's wrong with them?
FYI, at this point you're considered a wannaBee/newBie. Although you claim to have prior experience, in actuality, you're not up to speed in the knowledge department, ......... yet.
A little knowledge can be a dangerous thang, especially when one is of the opinion that they know more than they actually do.
If that's your take I doubt you'd be interested in any logical reasoning to the contrary, preferrin' instead to remain stuck on "stupid" while referrin' to others as bein' what you're demonstrating yourself.
Which isn't unusual. Rather typical, actually. And predictable.
You can't always get what'cha want
But, if you try sometime,
You just might find,
You get what'cha need.
Lighten up!
Stressin' out over such trivial matters ain't healthy and could, quite possibly, be as, or more, harmful than being a "fat" Big truck truck driver. I realize that doesn't actually pertain to you 'cause you're not a real Big truck truck driver at this time. But SOMEday you might be, ......... again.
Lord willin' and the creek don't rise.
Until then, have pleasant thoughts of how thangs oughta be while watchin' out for fat Big truck truck drivers behind you, as well as thangs that go "bumP" in the night. They're out to get'cha, so it ain't bein' paranoid.
OH!
FYI, attempts to insult me are a waste of time because I'm
waayyy too stupidto realize I've been insulted, when and if
such an attempt is made. It all just goes right over my head and runs off my shoulders, harmlessly. :smt045
Sorry if that disappoints anyone. :smt047 -
(anyone with that little class can not, IMO, be referred to as the first Lady)
The bottom line is that CSA does not specifically set BMI standards. However, it does stress driver fitness. As a result, more and more Doctors, who perform DOT physicals, are evaluating drivers for indicators that the driver may be predisposed to having sleep apnea.
These indicators can include, but not limited to,
BMI
Neck size
Whether the diver reports snoring
The result of examining the drivers airway.
Prime has simply decided to be proactive. They have decided to implement a policy to address this problem now. They may be doing this because it keeps their insurance down. They may be doing this to protect their drivers. They may simply believe that by addressing it now they will be ready when the regulations do come. If, or when, the regulations pass there will a great many companies, and drivers, who will have a problem coming into compliance. There will be a "run" on the sleep labs. I suspect this may even result in sleep labs "price gouging". Prime will not have to deal with these problems.
No matter what their reasoning, I personally commend Prime for addressing this problem. They are giving their drivers a chance to get tested, and teated if necessary. Prime is providing this to their new drivers, (who usually have no insurance) at a price significantly below current market value. This is not discrimination.
I do not see how providing a medical test, to an at risk person, can in any way be construed as discriminating against that at risk person. It is a win, win situation. Some people are too stupid to wan to take that win.
Remember, this all started with a story about an overweight driver. Prime did not send that driver home. They simply asked the driver to submit to a test, and receive treatment if necessary. The driver choose to refuse the test. The driver chose to go home.
