Ya know, this all seem so goofy.

I went to a land improvement contractors association meeting with my dad in the 60's. The DOT showed up and wanted to instruct everyone that they now had to have wide load signs on their trucks when hauling oversize equipment. (these were mostly contractors and not commercial haulers). My dad raised his hand and asked "if they can't see that 10 foot dozer blade, how are they going to see the wide load sign?" That a got a pretty good laugh out of everyone there, of course, the DOT cop did not think it was funny.

This stuff just gets more rediculous as time goes by. Similar to warning labels on battery acid not to drink the stuff.

I think if you look at quite a few of the laws we have, there is a financial interest or some gain to be made by that law for someone or some company. Like they say, "follow the money".

It is absolutely ridiculous to require tape on the mudflaps when there are already ten miles of tape on the back wall of the cab and real working tail lights and blinkers.

My boss just had to spend a pissload of money outfitting our company trucks with these stupid mud flap brackets to stick the tape on. One of these days I'm gonna come up with a product that is mandatory... I'll be filthy stinking rich.

My guess would be an accident happened, and the Lawyers said you neglected to show safe hauling. Law suit after Law suit.
