Here's the first one...I'm pretty sure this one is bone stock not been touched....now here's a trivia question for you....without having to look it up on google, name the famous TV show in which this radio was used, and name the car it was used in.

Here's the 2nd one...what is it about Midland that no one likes?

Anyways this thing was really dingy dirty with nicotine tar. The first pic on the bottom shows it real well, I had already started cleaning off the top with some rubbing alcohol when I snapped this pic.

Wondering about what I can do with this radio...as of now I'm pretty sure it's stock....thinking of putting it in my beater 4X4 truck since I figure "who's gonna steal a Midland?" But also wanting to make it a stronger performer. So far I've verified it works albeit the rheostat for the volume has some cracking to it. Would be awesome to make it walk tall on key up.

Oh yeah I forgot to mention both radios work and I didn't pay a dime for either of them!

I am guessing Dukes Of Hazzard? It wasnt Smokey And The Bandit because they used a junky Pace mobile in the trans am...

You are correct sir, the Cobra 78x is the very radio used in the General Lee in the TV show Dukes Of Hazzard.

And yes in Smokey And The Bandit, the radio used in the Trans AM was a Pace CB 166 while Snowman's truck had I believe a Pace 1000M.

But if I may ask, what is so bad about the Pace radios?

I was gonna guess Dukes, but I didn't get here fast enough. And there's nothing wrong with a Midland, the 30+ year old one my father bought back when you needed a license still works just fine according to everyone I talk to with it.

The older Midlands (1970's era) from what I've gathered are pretty good, but I don't know about the newer ones, they don't seem to get all the brownie points that even the newer Cobras seem to get.

I still would like to know why Pace was considered to be such a bad radio?
