Federal authorities say nearly 2,800 spot safety checks of passenger buses across the country from March 28 through April 6 resulted in about 10 percent of the vehicles or drivers being taken off the road
its a shame how these bussing companies are operating i feel sorry for those that have lost loved ones in recent bus accidents. in the past 6 months i've been on several busses and didn't care for the way any of them drove -
During an interview today with a Washington DC radio news station, the governer of Virginia was asked how he felt about the current regulations of "interstate drivers" and the changes still to come. He responded by stating the obvious...that the accident on NB I-95 is a tremendous tragity. The interviewer asked if the cause had been determined, the governer then responded, "All signs point to 'driver fatigue". When asked how he [governer] felt about the current regulations, and the possiblity of change to the current regulations, he clarified that all regulations are mandated on by the federal government and that the state had no say in the matter, HOWEVER, "driver fatigue is the cause of 90% of fatal accidents when a commercial vehical is involved"...he then back peddled a bit and stated that fatigue was an issue for ALL drivers CD or not. He also said that he supports the efforts of the federal governmet in reference to the ongoing reconsideration of hours commercial drivers are legally allowed to drive, how long a drivers resting period should be (sleeping), and how much "time off" should be given to commercial drivers between the end of their current and next "tour of duty".
I walked away from my truck with two thoughts...#1, may God be with the friends, family, and loved ones of those that parished in todays accident, and may God be with those that survived on their road to recovery. #2 The HOS changes in consideration (ruling will come down in July of this year) WILL CERTAINLY become law in the very near future. I believe that today may have been the straw that broke the camel's back. The government and our "president" will soon give way to law enforcement and say goodbye to any further considerations. THIS IS MY PERSONAL OPINION...everyone has one, so...
Anyway, a very special thanks to the bus drivers and the bus companies that decided to ignore federal law, regulation, and personal responsibility that, as a result, has killed scores of people over the last several months. Your actions (or lack thereof), ignorance and irresponsibility, will most certainly weigh in heavy as a deciding factor in the July HOS ruling...So, thank you again, you 3 idiots have (IMO) single handedly changed the trucking/driving industry for all of us now and for the generations to come! You have taken food off our tables, money from our wallets, and cast a dark shadow upon all of us in the industy. May every single day you serve in prison be served thinking of those you have killed. F&*%ing idiots!
P.S. My sincere condolances to those lost and the family involved. May God be with you!
P.P.S Sorry for the spelling...I haven't had time to proof read!JohnBoy Thanks this. -
While it's sad when something like this happens, regardless of what the HOS are, if the driver doesn't get rest during his time off, these events will happen anyway.
badcompany Thanks this. -
youre right they can drop the hours allowed to drive down to an hour a day
but they cant make people sleep instead of staying up all the night before or trashing around in the truckstops or whatever
heart goes out to the families -
