Well, let me introduce myself. I have been browsing the threads for about a week and am already feeling "at home" here, even though I haven't even started truck driving school. I'm a 51-year old woman, live in Nashville, TN and am going through school again because the only driving experience that I have was 21 years ago for 2 years. I was forced to come in off of the road when my Mother was diagnosed with terminal cancer. I didn't want to be clear across the country if something went wrong.
I have talked to a student driver recruiter at USX and she sent me the initial paperwork to fill out to get me pre-qualified. I am in the process of getting that paperwork done so that I can get it back to her.
I do have one question right now about the Orientation, etc. I have heard several of you mention the physical tests that they put you through. I underwent a total joint replacement of my left knee last October. Although I am in no pain and the knee is stronger than it has ever been, I'm not so sure that I can squat and move 5 feet because I still don't have the range of motion in my knee that I had prior to the surgery. My doctor pretty much told me what to expect before I had the surgery and usually the ROM is not as much (bending wise) as it is with the original knee joint. I am surely hoping that this won't keep me from being hired...
I really enjoy reading everyone's posts and will continue to visit this forum on a daily basis. Thanks for listening to me and I hope that everyone's having a wonderful day, wherever you are in this wonderful country....
BTW, I won't be graduating from school until Aug. 24 as it is a 7-1/2 week course that doesn't start until June 15....so it will be a little while before I'm ready to go out with a trainer... -
I'm sorry to say it. but if you can't do the duck walk under the rope for 5 ft. they won't hire you. they were something like 10 people in my orientation class that failed that task.

Good luck to you two. I'm ready to go myself, and looking forward to it.

Welcome to the Forum, TNJayjay.
If you are worried about passing the agility test, specifically the duck walk, I would recommend that you begin practicing. Your schooling won't be finished until late August so you have time to get yourself into best shape possible.
If you really want to do this, you'll have to put in the effort. Your body will adapt. Start slow.
Good luck to you.

I got moved into my new 2012 Cascadia today, found reverse and 2nd...LOL...it's in the shop right now getting the inverter and cb installed. Some things actually got put away, everything else is either just stuffed or tossed on the top bunk. Been sitting here reading the manual and trying to figure out what all those buttons and stuff are....mechanic said he would give me a crash couse...LOL
Met Sean today and we hit it off really good. Will find out tomorrow if we get to hook up or not.
Was sitting here, had just logged on, hadn't read anything yet, and Anne walks in...soon after Craig comes in.....so nice to see them again.
tntrucker.....I figure we will be leaving out sometime on Friday but it would be great if we saw you before we leave.
JayJay, welcome to our little corner of the forum......do like Wedge says and you should be able to pass the duck walk....it's really not hard, you just have to get down far enough and make sure you don't fall over...LOL
NoCenArk.....congrats on getting through Orientation.....hopefully one day we can meet up somewhere.Wedge Thanks this. -
