What CB Radio to Buy

Call custom CB radios. I just called them yesterday, got an answer quick.

Did no one at Sparkys answer the phone? They're usually good at that, not so much at email.

 

Ain't no lie fella,"The Majority" does not care
Will not care and therefore continue to run whatever radio
on what ever frequency they choose.

You live in a dream world lissen to the bands once you get above 28 there are only a few outlaws CB ers as a rule are not stupid and stay below that point.

You don't know anything about radio so you make it up as you go then say stupid things like what you just stated since you can't dazzle us with brains you try to baffle us with your stupity .

There are rules to radios, some tend to follow them while others tend not too. One rules then really tends to be over looked is the 4 watt rule. This is the rule that makes me an outlaw because I don't own a 4 watt radio.

One of my radios is a 10 meter export. It has been modified to be used on the CB frequencies and that is were it stays unless I go listening for any activity on the other "bands" I don't key up or try to talk because my antenna setup is not tuned to 10 meter.

I only really have need for 5 or 6 specific channels. 19 being the regular channel along with our company or "farm" channel or our "coffee room" channel and the couple channels I use during the summer when I am pulling a belly dump trailer to comunicate with the drivers and loader operator in the pit.

As far as Sparkys phone hours, please remember that he is in the central time zone. I have never had a problem getting ahold of sparkys during his busines hours unless there is a storm in his area or something.

Doug on the other hand, well he is a one man show and sometimes he does not answer the phone if he is busy trying to get a radio finished.

Back to the power thing, there are a few self proclaimed radio police out there. They drive around listening to people transmitting with extra power. They then find the offending truck or station and report them to the FCC. They are usually in the more congested areas. They are usually Ham operators with a chip on their shoulders. It should not be any of their business unless the offending radio is drifting out of the CB frequencies.

The FCC does not go trolling for extra power on the CB frequencies unless someone calls in or sends in a complaint.

But for the most part the power thing is not a big deal. There are thousands of CB users out there that are running more then legal 4 watt stations on the CB frequencies and that will never end. This is why I wish they would just lift the power limits. This would do away with most of the dirty radios since there would be clean factory units being produced rather then the chopped up bleeding units that alot of us hear on the air. It would then allow the manufacturers to move forward with CB radio tech rather then just different lighting and face panels on the same old CB radios.

Gadfly is correct in one aspect. CB radios are stoneage tech. The only reason for this is because of the rules that the manufacturers have to abide by.

As of now there is really no unlisced radio service that can touch CB as far as truck to truck comunication with everyone driving out there. Well unless drivers start running around with a banner on their truck which lists there cell number on it.

One thing that always intrigues me is these little handheld comunicators that you can get in most any hunting supply store or hardware store. I have a set of these and they can easily reach out 20 miles and have features on them that no CB has. Many many channels with privacy codes etc for private comunication along with scan features nto found on many of the popular CBs. And all of it using a little rubber duck style 5 inch or less antenna. And on 5 watts or less. Even on a clear clean day, a properly setup "stock" CB can not touch these things on range or performance. I spent less then 80 bucks on mine and they came with VOX headsets, chargers etc.

Just think or dream a minute. This type of setup in a ridged mounted situation with a handheld noise canceling mic and a 1 foot roof mounted antenna. The unit could be the size of these 29 dollar CBs that you can buy in the truck stops. Oh a man can dream can't he???? Expand the dream a little and say that the truck manufacturers would be dash mounting these from the factory with a nice remote speaker on the drivers side.
