Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

Well, I can't tell you anything specific about any one company. But if you do decide to get into the food grade sector of tanker work, be prepared for smoothbore tankers. These have no baffles inside to slow the movement of the liquid, and this will give you a fit.
-
I dont know to much about them but my dad drives for Oakley out of Lakeland florida. He has been there six years now and likes it a lot.
-
Are smooth bores really that hard to drive? I've heard a lot about them, I'd like to try it once.
-
Try laying a 1/2 bottle of pop or water on its side as tip it from front to back that is what goes on in smooth bore tanker.
Just imagine it alot bigger they can push you though a stoplight to the middle of the intersection. -
Seriously, They can push you through an intersection? I've seen smoothbores driving around and the seem to do fine. They can't be that bad.
-
once you know how to pull them and stop them it is easy.
-
Well I'm going to have to try it.
-
They can easily push you through an intersection as well as knock your hat off and throw your coffee out of the cupholder. If you jerk 'em around, they'll jerk back.
Been pulling tanks for a year now and it was my first driving job out of CDL school. I heard all that talk of baffled tanks... I've never seen a baffled tank. I pull Hazmat (explosives, acids, corrosives etc.) and none of these have baffled tanks.
But MGASSELL is right, once you learn how to treat 'em you will be fine. It can make for some interesting driving though.

Half full is the worst situation too, more so than a full one.
