A former student of mine that is now an instructor told me that they were allowing students who were stuck at the pad for a few days waiting on an instructor to go ahead and take the pre-trip and backing tests before going out with an instructor if they thought they could pass them, since they were practicing them non-stop pretty much. The last 2 times I have been in the yard looking for a student they were all assigned by Friday evening, so there were no students at the pad waiting, so I haven't actually seen any students do this.
