    Whats up everyone!?!?!?!

    Let me start of by saying that while I'm green at driving a rig I'm far from GREEN when it comes to this business.. I grew up in the trucking world. My father, two of my Uncles and one cousin have all at some point either drove, owned there own trucks or like myself have ran trucking companies. I put over 300K miles under my belt in the last two years doing hot shot loads. Well I feel that driving a rig shouldn't be much different and from what I learned down in Millington TN other than turning radius and getting used to air ride suspension I should do okay.. My question is this, 1) What kinda advice can you give to a green driver when it comes to driving in bad weather. I know with heavier loads the rig and trailer will handle differently. 2) Any recommendations on setting up a truck for the first time.. For example what kinda power invertors to buy, fridges that work the best in all kinda weather things of that nature. Lastly I am looking at being an O/O or Lease Op. What kinda info can you give me on doing this? Whats a good start up capital to have before going out and getting my own truck. Personal opinions of the different kinda trucks out there such as a Pete or a KWhopper. Anyways thanks for taking the time to read this and any advice you can give will be more than appreciated..

    Welcome to the forum my friend. If I think who you are, you should have no trouble setting up your truck. Remember Swift only allows 400 watt inverters and your best bet is to ask your trainer and other Swift drivers.

    Edit: Take a look at the lease program Swift has in writing before you make any decisions. Plus Swift requires you to have approximately six months OTR experience with no service failures to do the lease program.

    It's easy to see from your post that you are excited to get started. Don't let your excitement override your need to follow ALL Swift's rules (like them or not), make the planners comfortable in your insistence on getting loads to their destination safely and on time, accept loads that aren't real profitable to you but still have to be done to keep the shippers/receivers that PAY SWIFT AND YOU happy.     I heard that if you can do the Dougie better than your Terminal Mgr can do it,,,you get extra miles. Is that true?

    Power inverters are a great thing,,,if installed properly. I've heard many do not install them properly,,,and 400 watt inverters aren't even worth the money,,,so I've read in these forums.

    Setting up your truck for the first time,,,I highly recommend Korean girls willing to travel and are good with laundry and cooking. The Vietnamese girls are good at cooking but they get motion sickness real bad,,,and if you have ever smelled that Cabbage stuff (Kim-Chee) the second time,,,you'll write them off your list too! Be sure to get a good flat screen TV and DVR. I usually watch Disney DVD's on mine.

    I'm not sure, but I think the Road-King refridgerator is best for most domestic beers. All of mine are usually super cold and easy to reach from the driver's seat. If you drink an import brand,,,well ######,,you shouldn't be driving in America!

    Let's get back to those Korean girls for a minute,,,you do know that they are usually very small and fit easily in the cab?

    I agree with you completely on what you said.. I'm not in a huge hurry and having over 300K under my belt doing hotshot work I've learned a lot out there.. Mostly that everyone thinks your in there way if your not doing 100mph.. I just want to make my mark in the world own my own truck and go back to the business that me and my brother started a few years ago.. I don't wanna work for someone when I have the ambition to work for myself..
