i worked with a lot of drivers from europe--thet loved the big trucks--for some of them it was a dream--and they bought every piece of chrome they could find to put on the company trucks--the odd one didnt like it--and went home--but not many.
and humbly i say--- the average brit driver that came over was above average in skills to any northa american driver--it just comes from where they have to go
and if you get a chance--ask to look at their driving pics--cause going from england to baltics or turkey sure isnt like going from ohio to florida
some drivers here wont go into canada--almost none will go into mexico--the stuff these guys went thru was pretty much jaw dropping at times
but now from what i hear--after the eu union was set up(read nafta)---all that has gone for crap--and it is low ballers that do that work now

i am not sure what did you write but if i am

yes situation in EU in transport is not good because new EU members their drivers are much cheaper they will not complain about bad truck bad work or similar things

also many companys from east have lot cheaper prices because their governments give them big benefits for example here in my country registration for 4x2 tractor and 3axle trailer is almost 6000$ in poland less than 1200$ their state give them cheaper fuel ....

and many companys from eu move to new members so lot of italian move to RU/BG

so i think on this way , if my grandfather need to drive non syncro truck in 50s and 60s why would i drive it today also for other things why to have truck without clutch cylinder also driving conditions here are much different driving truck based on same technology as you have on highway is almost same thing, although we have the much larger traffic

but off highway things are lot different and on this roads/spots i would never like to drive anything else than i already drive

i am enjoying looking trucks from world wide including US , but i would not like to drive anyone of them

please if you have time look this, having a non syncro even best driver can miss gear on 20% steep hills so this is much safer and easier for the driver which make it far more careful monitoring of traffic

this truck here have big v8 , 885hp strong retarder , disc brakes all round , telma electric retarder, slow hub reduction differential ( 3.91-5.18 ) which make it even stronger and especially stronger retarder , i am not sure for gearbox it can have two versions of it one direct drive one overdrive (0.81)
overdrive from this generation cant be offered with AMT

and it take to 2hours for 43 mille

some spanish trucks have even telma on trailer ( on this video one trailer have it -2axle unit reffer with tarpaulin)

EU truck are cool.. Those V8 Scanias are awsome. I wouldn't want to truck my W-9 through that countryside .

The issue that should be getting addressed is what the hell is with that music !! come on !

A Telma retarder is frictionless electromagnetic braking system made by Telma, a company that is part of the Valeo group, a French automotive components manufacturer. A Telma retarder is an eddy current brake system.
The system works by energising coils with alternating polarities in order to create an electromagnetic field. Eddy currents are generated in two rotors as they pass through this field, applying a braking torque to their rotation and therefore to the driveshafts attached to them. The stator houses the electromagnetic coils and is attached to the chassis, the transmission or an axle of the vehicle. Round discs called rotors are attached to the driveline. A thin air gap is maintained between the rotors and the coils. In normal operation, the rotor turns freely but when electric current flows through the coils, eddy currents are created that apply braking torque to the rotors and therefore to the driveline

So based on your belief, if Volvo (Truck and Car), Toyota, Honda, BMW, Porsche, and every motorcycle manufacturer were to take all their plants out of America and leave 10's of thousands of people unemployed that would be ok? Not to mention every manufacturer's supplier, all the trucking jobs and every other ancillary job associated with said companies. I use to think like you did, 10-15 years ago, but as a consumer buying expensive pruducts, I want the best bang for my buck, and if that means buying one of those companies products so be it. By the way, my wife and I both have brand new vehicles, a 2011 Toyota Avalon and a 2011 GMC Tahoe. The Tahoe is the biggest piece of crap we ever owned and is constantly in the shop, the Toyota? Perfect. I'm not looking to start an argument about what's politically correct, but my thinking is this, although they are foreign companies, they put a lot of Americans to work and keep a lot of food on the table and roofs over our heads. It's a vicious cycle we have here but at least it works.

    all south europe have this

we also , thats why i many times write i love drawbar setup and hate tractor-semitrailer setups

and when i writing this i just remember

somewhere in august 2000 , my father drive for about 3 months on same job it was at southernmost part of our country and driver from continental part of land( northest ) was with mercedes 2538 and going on serpentines,,,,just after serpentine he shift it too fast and EPS did not allow to shift gear and he ended in neutral or similar i dont remember... and he did not react fast for this and truck reversed back ....trailer get out from road .....also he was not able to return it back on road so they need to call crane

place where i was born and lived some part of life are much better which is generally normal for drivers from hill region

i had video of my brother near town rijeka swith 17 percent (downhill) going down 4mille long with lot of tight spots and serpentines

trucks in roads in many parts of europe take 2 lanes on road so small turning circle is pretty popular thing

for those roads this combo are best (especially with steerable tag axle)

    or like this

but we have here combos like this ( off course not legal) length is 95feet they load 176000lbs of grain

I've seen a lot of European trucks this last year. When Europe thins they cant pass regs they send them To the Afganistan . When Afganistan gets done with them , Gray transporttation picks em up and puts a new inspection sticker on them. Lots Mercedes , Man and Volvo single axle Cabovers with tiny racks. They get driven in all conditions to . I saw one with a WAY overloaded flat bed get stuck in a soft spot in the sand. It took them an hour to dig out. You cant get entertrainment like this in Disneyworld.
