I work for a Carbonic company doing shop work and occasionally hot shot loads. I am based in Melbourne FL.

I grew up in Miami, Fl and moved to Port St. Lucie. My Hubby was a Car Hauler and unless you know people it was very hard to find a company that would not take advantage. You are right not many companies will hire out of FL. The last company he worked for ended up costing us alot of money and we decided to take our savings and move out of state to a better hiring area before he quit. We had almost lost everything by that point. Melton does hire out of Florida but but don't know what there cpm rate is right now. He started working for ATS last year driving a flat bed and things are a little better. Right now as far as I can see this all of you drivers and you famillies are struggleing but I know how much you florida drivers struggle. Best advice I can give is talk to other drivers at the truck stops about the companies they work for or think about trying to move out of FLorida.

I currently am an owner operator for a dry van carrier based in Cedar Grove, WI ReedTms Logistics that pays .99 + Fuel on all miles driven. It's been great the only downfall is I have to stay out 2-3 weeks at a time, but I understood that from day 1. They keep me moving, average 2400 miles weekly. Great dispatcher! They say that they will be opening a terminal in the Tampa area soon and would like to find additional owner operators.
The Challenger Thanks this. -
FL can be good for certain types of freight. Miami is always getting produce and flowers from central and south america.

.99/mile + FSC and 2400 miles a week? Heck, you could make more as a company driver. Call Landstar and go make some $$$$. -
I spoke with a Chad recently from Reed/tms and indeed they are trying to set up something here. He said they hope to start with 30 trucks based down here and grow so I guess time will tell. He seemed like a decent guy and was pretty straight with answers. He told me they were getting company trucks here too.
Flownerop I hope it continues to work well for you! He said they do alot of blanket wrap... true??? -

You are in for a big surprise. This company was great to work for before REED got involved, now there's nothing but alot of animosity. As for those miles, enjoy it while you can cuz it won't last long. They have a great rep for puttin the miles on for the first few months, but then boom suddenly it just drops off and sinks like a rock. They promise too much to too many people and that dispatcher you speak so highly of, well there is their .... "favorites" and they get all the premium runs and miles. I talked just like you when I started and now. Every week I have to fight for missing pay, miles and more importantly, "respect"... Oh and don't dare ask for any home time.. hahaha, do that and you become blacklisted, your only allowed the home time they want you to have. And if that dispatcher screws up which usually does and you try to rectify a problem they caused, good luck with that you become the worst person in the world and how dare you mention they made a mistake, there goes your sweet miles and loads, get ready to sit sit sit.. they can't even keep their company drivers running consistantly, how do you think they will treat you, that and they keep loosing major accounts due to their gross lack of communication and arrogance.
Well I hope your receptive to the truth, take what you can get now but I seriously suggest you maintain a plan B (exit strategey). BTW note the recent exodus of long time drivers who have had it there. Just saying !!!
On my way out too.. take care.
