What do I need to enter< if anything in my log book for an international border crossing, do I just flag the time, do I show time?

flag it --unless you have to go in for paper wok and such--then on duty not driving

If you are stuck in line at the border, then show that time as on duty not driving. If you get lucky and blast thru in less than 15 minutes (yes it has really happened for me!) Just flag the entry port town name to show you were there.

If you blow through and there is no bridge receipt like at Pembina why would you need to flag it?

Ya, the only time I logged crossings was when I was delayed, usually by the nazi's in Detroit backing everything up.

I suppose if you go right thru with no delay it's not much different than a toll booth, but there would be an official time and date record of you crossing, so if your company is ever audited your logs better match.

Why? Where in the rule book does it state this? I pull up to the booth and in 15 seconds I am on my way...WHY would I need to make a notation?

When you cross an international boundary the Hours Of Service rules you're operating under will change. Without a notation of your border crossing, a later inspection may find a violation that shouldn't have been one since at the time you were operating in another country. ie. In Canada you are allowed 13 hours of drive time a day instead of 11 in the US. If you drive for 13 hours in a shift in Canada without notating a border crossing on your logs, and are later in the week inspected in the US, the officer may write you for violating the 11 hour rule, as he has no way of knowing when you were in Canada.
