check your frame gnds for battery and starter as well--on the shakers they can look pretty decent--but when cut the insulation back a bit ,they are pretty green and cooroded--seemed especially bad on the starter to frame gnd

Just as Rerun said, truck wouldnt start awhile back. Just clicked. Ended up being a lose battery wire on starter(3406E) check all connections. It takes time, but is time well spent. And dont forget the grounds... they are just as important.

    Gears Thanks this.

Did some digging and noticed that there's diesel leaking onto the starter contacts. I think it's coming from the fuel pump. What a mess...

Mine did the same thing not starting. Replaced the starter on in a Hardees parking lot.

if there is fuel getting into the solenoid or starter--that might be screwing it up--
    next--do you have good insurance?
and do you want a different truck?

Do the batteries smell like a paper mill? My last set went about 2 1/2 years before one sulfated and cooked the other two.

Have the batteries checked with a load tester. They can show good voltage and still not have enough amperage to crank the truck.

And as above... agree on cleaning all the connections.

Well, 1st and foremost, I need to get this leak stopped. Don't need the starter arcing and starting a fire instead of the engine:biggrin_25511:. I believe it's the primer pump (?).
    Here's a picture...

Here's a (poor) picture of the leak going onto the starter...

...and finally a close-up of the offender. Hopefully gaskets can be replaced instead of the whole freakin' unit.
