Well the shippers and recievers will adapt because the lies will now come to an end.
All your quaint feelings about your old company(Gee wonder why they are the old one.Never mind my GAF is quite broken) and your big mother trucker (Why is it always the big W900 with the custom studio triple digit rig that got 10 mpg???) And how it is tragically unfair you should have to follow the law are silly and irrellevant. You claim everyone or at least a preponderance act as you do. I say there are far less than you think they just have no need to discuss it.
Hyperinflation and sky rocketing prices because drivers will have to follow the law? Yup trucker hysteria at it's finest. Enjoy your new career whatever you decide as you've demonstrated your lack of adaptability in this thread. -
The basic laws we should have should allow any behaviour unless it causes harn to other by force or fraud.
I know it's a radical concept of keeping your nose out of others business, but it is the only logical interaction that can be sustained in society.
Laws governing you conduct, and you operation of a dangerous vehicle, fall well within preventing someone from committing harm from both force or fraud.
Now since if we tried to wait until they caused that harm we can not easily repair the damage we attempt to preempt their conduct on the road with speed limits, seat belts, lighting, and in the case of commercial interests how long they attempt to operate in a 24 hour period.
When they start banning pregnant teens(not a bad idea by the way but immoral), beating the people walking down the street holding hands I'll assume those are not laws coming down the pike.
I understand you allowed yourself to be stressed by an electronic device? Maybe seems like you don't work there now. My guess is you feel pushed whenever a delivery is tight. I do not suffer this condition.
My firm belief is lack of planning on somebody else's part does not equal crisis on my part.
If a shipper takes over an hour to load I tell them and my dispatch on time delivery is in jeopardy. If a reciever takes an hour to unload I start the process of notifying CS and dispatch as well as the customer that pay for my time has begun. Well that or I put on my Pepsi Jeff Gordon hat. Shirt, jacket and walk into the suit area at Coca-Cola but that is another story.
I do what I can do within the bounds of the law, my companies policy, and my judgement on road conditions, vehicle...........
Nobody can rush me but me. Yes yes all the fears of sitting for punishment and crud. All I can tell you is I do not suffer those conditions either. See John,my dispatcher, knows two things. I will not run illegal. When I take a load there will be a legitimate reason if it is late(I think I have two in the last two years snow, blown EGR valve) and not some miserable excuses.
In return I get my detention, miles, time off, and good interaction with the people in the office that help me get my job done. Not everyday is a bucket of roses, but what you do with the days of BS can increase them. -

biggest problems i see with e-logs is running out of hours or close to it at a dock. and if made mandatory for ALL trucks, the little guys, small fleets and owner operators would go out of business because they just couldn't afford a qualcom period.

I have some errands to run and a couple of lawfirm reports to do, I'll look it up later. I know e-logs will likely be mandated for companies with 10% non-compliance or higher, but I read the original senate bill when all this started, and it indicated that it would not apply to small companies, those with 100 trucks or less.
Seems easy enough... if you have a 300 truck company, divide it into four 75 truck companies..diesel_weasel Thanks this. -
