I just left KLLM on 06/03/11 I was a lease(purchase program) driver and made decent money from it. I made a bit more then company. I am thinking until I find another great Purchase program or go to a dealer I will drive as a company driver for someone.

I am wondering what will be some good options for me I have 10 Months OTR experience with KLLM. I went to KLLM straight out of PDI trucking school. I just had my first kid 5 weeks ago and just need to put money in my pocket like the rest of us. I don't care on the company as long as they run me with high miles weekly and have half way ok pay. I have 1 of my 2 dogs that will be riding with me as its too hard for my wife to watch a newborn, a rottweiler and a boxer.

What I wants in the company:

    • Good Miles
    • Half way decent pay
    • Allows dog (I don't mind deposit)
    • Allows idling or has APU to keep truck cool or warm for the dog.
    • Maybe some sort of a rider program for the future to bring family out with me

I have been searching the internet day and night since I left KLLM there is so much out there i am afraid i am going to get into the wrong company and get screwed. Thanks for the help in advance!

Why did you leave KLLM ?

Might have a lead for you , will check on it and let you know. Your in the right area for a contract my son has running up into Ontario Canada from the Eastern Seaboard.

I left due to issues inside the company. Dont get me wrong KLLM is a company i would recommend to anyone wanting a true 0 down payment lease many kllm drivers finish the lease and own the truck with 1 dollar buyout and not bad price i was getting mine after a slight interest a 2009 Cascadia with 200k miles for 64,000 after any type of interest.

Anyways I left due to personal reasons I just had a kid and KLLM burned a couple bridges between me and them and at the time I just needed to leave. I would probably go back in the future just right now I want to learn what is out there and explore my options.

    Updating post:
I have applied to Conway Truckload. They offered me 39CPM and in 2 months I will be at 12 months (1 year) OTR experience and they will raise my pay to 41CPM at that time! I can bring my dog and they said I can be Northeast regional to get home to see my daughter more often! I am excited but before I get too excited if anyone has any PROS or CONS about Conway Truckload please let me know what they are or if there may be any other companies to look at.

Ok Conway did not work out, they said I have enough OTR experience but not enough work experience :biggrin_25510:. I then Applied for Schneider OTR O/O for the smart strat program and they turned me down to both the O/O and Company side. Now I just need to find a decent OTR or Regional job that will pay ok. If I am company I don't want to be making 28 CPM like Swift. Is there any good companies out there that pay more towards the higher 30's CPM like 36 - 40 CPM I good look into? Crete/Shaffer said they would hire me but because i have 10 months OTR experience and not the required 1 Year I would have to go out with a training for min 6 weeks before I run solo :biggrin_2556:! Any help would be great i have my first child 6 weeks old here at home and my wife and I just need to get a income better then $600 a week like swift lol!

My suggestion is to go back to KLLM for a couple months on the company side. It sounds like you didn't burn your bridges.
This way, you can tell prospective companies you have 12+ months with KLLM. They won't necessarily find out you quit for a few weeks.
You really need that minimum of one year for most companies.
Bite the bullet would be my advice.

Well good news is that Marten seems to be opening their doors to me they sound good. I decided I wont bring my pet so I have more places to look at as far as companies. Marten said I can run regional and be home about every 7 days for 2 days if i would like and be paid 32 - 36 cpm then after being with them for 3 months they will bump me up to 37 - 41 CPM and many bonuses. They have APU on all trucks, A 2000+ watt inverter on all trucks, Transflo/trippak scanning on all trucks! Easy to bring passengers on the truck with me i just need to send a macro on the qualcom saying name, dob, home location of my passenger and then they are good to ride no need for waiting for a ok or paperwork to be signed! I am excited seems like a good fit I hope it all works out for me :biggrin_255:

Is that with a per diem? If so do you know what it is?

Yes but i figure just to get 2 more months experience so I am at 1 year OTR experience then I can go to Heartland or some of these other companies that require 1 year OTR experience. But i Will continue to look at other companies before going to Marten because on top of the per diem they charge all company drivers .03 CPM for admin. fee for having per diem that we are forced to do which is stupid!

you might have screwed your self by 2 months... from what I've seen most company's want at least a year experience before they will even talk to you out of another company. Its not that you dont have enough experience with the job but if you quit a job within the 1st year you will be seen as a company cowboy that switches from job to job. Not that you are but thats just the way it is portrayed.

And i would put in at least 6 months to a year with this new company... you may have a year experience but you now have it with 2 company's if you switch after just 2 months to get your year's experience of working with one there going to frown upon that as well.
