Per Diem for truckers? Yes or No

Just make sure they are paying your per diem at 59$ per night spent in your truck.

If that is how they pay and you want to work there, you have no choice. I would not work for a company that charges to do per diem and makes me do it. Other than that I find it beneficial for my situation. Every person is different.

It does not matter whether it is paid on miles or days or how much they pay. All that matters is it is not more than the federal amount allowed and I doubt this is going to happen. I work for a company that is based out of Mondovi Wi.They auto.enroll you in the co.per-deim..and you have no choice,company policy..Then they charge you 0.03 cpm off the top...So you figure on a 2500 mile week you are paying them $ 75.00 a week to let you work there....RIPOFF CENTRAL...I did not say the company name,but I guess you can figure out who it is....

 

Right - when my wife and I started with Covenant several years ago, we agreed to do the per diem thing... then noted a 3 cpm drop in pay for the "privilege". We then declined it, but they made us jump through all kinds of hoops to stop it.

 

Werner has it as well, But the cool thing is the privilege cost is only $.01PM
also its optional at Werner. I'll be taking it, I'm only 23 and most likely SS is going to be gone by the time im old.

 

Charging a driver to take a required pay scheme is totally BOGUS.
There is no more paperwork involved in paying per diem. Actually less.
To charge a maintenance fee is downright theft.

 

Companies are profiting big time from making drivers take perdiem. That's less social security they have to pay, less 401K they have to match. Since unemployment and workers comp insurance is based on percentage of gross, that is less they have to pay.

Drivers settle their perdiem tax time regardless. Whether you get a little here and there or the whole kit and kaboodle doesn't matter. Annually the amount is the same. What matters if you get disabled, your monthly benefit is reduced... your 401K amount is smaller.... any unemployment benefits can be reduced... get hurt and you draw a smaller workers comp check.

It is to a drivers benefit NOT to take it. Any company that forces you to take it is using you to boost their profits. It ought to be a big red flag on how you will be treated. Because there will be other ways they get you to boost their profits.

 

my per diem deduction for last year was $17,818.... 302 days on the road at $59 a day that by it's self is more than enought to itemize
