I graduated from Roadmaster this past friday and have chosen to go to squire/knight mainly because they have a terminal within 15 minutes of my house and there aren't any other tuck parking locations close to me. I also like their training pay and and their not bad on cpm either. talked to like 4 of their drivers and they all average over or around 3k miles lately.
So, they said that i will be going to mississippi for my orientation, and i was wondering if anyone else on here has been there for their orientation. If so what can I expect out of it? like how is their driving tests to make sure i wont destroy their trucks? how is the hotel? stuff like that.
I leave this Saturday on the greyhound...florida to mississippi on greyhound is going to suck! but, i am looking forward to joining you all on the road!![]()
squire it is!

I think so.

I can only speak for the Knight side of things, but you probably picked the better of the options out there. Knight likes to keep it "Regional" meaning each terminal operates as its own company expect a lot of 5-700 mile runs.
Also, if you cross into another terminals operating area they will give their drivers outta that terminal all the "good freight" and you will be left with the leftovers. Or, might have to wait a day or two for a load.
I have no real complaints from my time at Knight, although they have a bad truck to trailer ratio....at least out West. One had to always run around looking for an empty or deliver a "local" as they called it to get one, the shops can be a pain. Stay away from Phoenix unless you really have to take care of something.
Once you make it out, expect a Volvo. They're not bad, I liked mine. Was eventually issued a Pete 387, didn't mind it just a KW T2000 with a nicer hat on. The sleeper was nice and roomy that's about all I can say. Feel free to ask more if I forgot something or you have more Q's.TruckermanD Thanks this. -
Did they stop doing orientation in Lakeland, Fl?
-
From my understanding the lakeland orientations is only for the knight portion of the company and newbies right out of school have to go to squire which is their training company. Idk why they don't just use the same terminals for both since they are technically the same company.

Not all the Knight terminals are setup for Squire Training. Driver Orientation and Driver Training are not the same. Knight's Squire program is well thought out and implemented.

Got on the bus an hour and a half ago. All I have to say so far is I wish I would have said no to the bus. This is going to be a terrible 19 hours.
-
Going Greyhound builds character. Who knows, maybe in casual conversation you'll meet other people on your bus heading off to Squire or another company orientation. Heck just be friendly to the people near you. You'll meet some interesting people, for sure.

Half way through the first day of orientation. So far so good. After that hellish first his ride the other 2 busses were fine, lots of space. Hotel isn't bad, got a couch and tv and no room mates. Right across the street from a small flying J, so food for dinner isn't hard to find. I am the only person here that has to go for the squire portion of orientation so so far I am just getting 1on1 orientation. Hoping things keep going like this for the rest of my time here and on the road for them. I'll try to keep updating on how their orientation and stuff is here.
