If you ever make it through, stop in north Little Rock at the Petro and hit up the BBQ man over there. I recommend only eatting just before starting your 10 hour break. You'll hurt yourself. And they deliver! Just listen for him on the radio.

"BBQ so good, you'll hit your dispatcher so hard it'll put a black on on his drivers license!" lol

Na, look futher south. I don't know why KC and such take that kind of credit because it's no where near as good as you get down south down here. Basically in MOST cases for BBQ start at the Northern Louisiana state line and look south from there with a straight line all the way cross to the eastern side of Georga and no futher than central Texas for the ultimate BBQ experiance. That Memphis and KC BBQ is more hype than anything and none of it has impressed me. Best BBQ I've had that's north of Louisiana is the BBQ man I mentioned in N. Little Rock. In most case's down here we don't use KC Master piece sauce off the shelf. We make our own. I like the KCMP BBQ sauce but I empty a whole bottle in a bowl and work my magic on it adding difference spices and such to give it a unique flavor.

Hickory and Mesquite fire wood are ok but it gets old because its so over used by so many people. Jack Daniels barrel wood chips have an awsome flavor if you can find them but I cut and split pecan wood myself after it is seasoned then soak it in a 55 gallon barrel full of water for 3-6 months before I use it. I even smoke fry fajita and taco meat in a cast iorn skillet on the grill using pecan for a OMG kind of taste. People who have had my BBQ tell me I should open my own BBQ shop but I wouldn't be able to keep up with the demand but of course I have secret's that I don't share in the process.

The Tennessean truck stop at I65 exit 22 in Tennessee has a restaurant/buffet and bbq place all together. Its called Pops bbq. Really good pulled pork. They also have their own sauce thats really good. They are cheap too. The pulled pork and two sides and bread for $6.99. They arent stingy with the meat either. Oh and if you can get the lil blonde waitress (I think her name is Megan) she is great. Really good service and VERY nice too look at too. :biggrin_25525:
Another place that I think is REALLY good is Sonny's. Its a chain but good bbq, good service, and really good sweet tea. There is one at exit 29 on I75 in Kentucky right next to the Loves. Dunno if they have other locations with truck parking.

Have eaten at both Gates and Aurthur Bryants. Both very good. Both very high because of reputation and large crowds. Different than TX. Somewhat sweeter sauce. Brisket not as tender. But very good. Lot s of crap joint s in TX as well. Angelos in FTW used to be considered the best in TX if not the nation. Fame has long ago ruined it. Expanded many times. Now all they have worth going for is coldest beer in state. Used to go to the Salt Lick outside Austin. Dripping Springs I think. Was very good . Bring your own cooler. Lot of little stands have excellent BBQ. Just got to try them to find them.
