Your fleet manager in Joplin dispatches you most of the time. The exceptions are when you are close to a terminal, then that terminals local dispatch does it. If your in Canada then the Taylor terminal takes care of you.

I just put in my app with conway. waiting to talk with new recruiter looks like christine no longer handels crowder.

Hey all, it took me a few days but I finally read through all the posts. I am considering Con-Way as well. I'll be hired out of Ft Myers, FL so I have no idea where I would go for orientation. I know they pay .30/mile and have a pet program, and I haven't heard anything horrible about them yet, so they are on the top of my list. There are not a lot of companies that will hire students this far south of Florida.
-
hi strawberry, welcome to the forum. i belive orientation is in joplin. have you gone to school yet? i suggest you check out the crowder threads that is where i plan to go
-
I am going to PTEC which stands for Pinellas Tech something or other in St Petersburg, Florida. It's $2,200 for 6 weeks, 320 hours. It's close enough for me that I can drive back and forth from home every day (class is 4 days a week). I just heard about Crowder from reading this thread, I didn't know about them before but it sounds like a good school. Yes orientation is in Joplin for students I just found out from my recruiter.

Regarding the info I got from the recruiter (see above) I have some additional questions and was just going to see if anyone here knows:
-Student graduates will go to orientation in Joplin, MO. It starts every Monday and lasts 8 days. The student orientation pays $400 for the week. We do provide hotel, meals and bus transporation.
Does anyone know if they provide all 3 meals? What are the accommodations like there? Will I go directly on the truck with the trainer after orientation?
-Students 1st 7,500 miles with finisher - $0.26 per mile then upgrade to company truck and earn $0.30.
Does anyone know why they call it a finisher? Is a trainer and a finisher the same thing? And does anyone know if I will be running team with the trainer, or will they be able to be awake and in the driver's seat while I'm driving?
- Safety Bonus
How much of a bonus do you get? Anyone here ever get it? How often do they give you the bonus, quarterly or yearly? -
Katey, I see where conway trks go to calexico quite often. I'm assuming that is freight going into Mexico. Is it one certain area that these loads originate from? I have been following u on "what's your 20". I want bother u there since I'm not with conway yet. Keep the info coming. Mark

strawbery i believe your 8 days will include bootcamp at crowder. i believe 3 meals durring week 2 on wkend. trainer finisher same deal. I was told they are awke with you in the jump seat. No team driveing. truck is run as solo.
good luck hope we both make it -
Man oh man, That drivers seat would get crouded really quick if I was a finisher!!I know that was a typo but I had to jump on it!, Yes the finisher is a trainer but since you have gone to school you have learned all that training can teach you so the driver finisher finishes your training off and makes sure you are able to control a 80K bomb going down the road, He should be comfortable with your driving before he kicks it back in the sleeper, I know of no one that has done this, I hate to call it a bomb but these vehicles out of control is exactly that, The safety bonuses are quarterly, I think... LOL I'm not there to get one so how would I know!!
I hope this helps. TD24
