Well, I'm waiting on a call to go take a road test with a local Oilfield water hauling company, I just graduated SAGE officially yesterday (Got the transcripts and certificates yesterday that is). The trucking company owner said she would get her head driver to take me on a road test this week...just dropped my application and had a short sit-down with her yesterday afternoon.
The other local oilfield job I applied for I had made a call to their head office on the other side of Wyoming and asked if they wanted a third application filled out for a job that had popped up after I had already filled out one for two other listings. They told me to call their guy here in Cheyenne, and I ended up with a sit down face-to-face meeting, but I'm still waiting on a call to go road test with them also...for about a week. Thats why I submitted an application with another local company.
So I would just hit the streets with your info in hand, and knock on some doors. I didn't want to do OTR so I didn't bother applying for any of the big carriers.BigJohn54 Thanks this. -

I went to the SAGE school here in Cheyenne. It was ok for what it is; a school for training folks the basics of driving and maneuvering tractor/trailers. They go into all aspects of trucking, but focus on what you need to get your CDL. The actual driving is one-on-one with an Instructor; 11 drives (On the range and on the road) at 4 hours each. They take you around town, out on County roads, and also do a drive up to the summit between Cheyenne and Laramie. They have three tractor/trailers (Two Kenworths and a Frieghtliner), and the trailers are all 53' with about 20K lbs of old tires in them, and the tractors all had sleepers. Now you have to understand that these trucks are not the newest equipment around, and have been driven by many different students of varying degrees of ability, so they are kind of beat up. I think all of the tractor rear side skirts are bent from folks jack-knifing too far while backing in the yard, and the trailers have seen better days. Luckily I had a few years experience driving, so the actual driving/backing was pretty easy for me. I was looking to get experience with larger trucks and the manual transmissions; the stuff I drove in the Military were day cabs and automatics, and flatbed/lowboy trailers.
I would say that for someone looking to get into a decent school that SAGE would be a good place to look. I don't know how they compare to other SAGE schools around the country though.
