looking to get back on the road but it seems that one thing is holding me back and that is the experience. had cdl for ten years been driving local dump truck all but one year and that year was to try otr and with my sun being a baby it didn't work out so it has been five years sense I have been over the road and no one wants give a guy a chance. good driving record with 5 plus points and I took a deff driving class just to take to help with insureince. would like to find reg. or east cost running something where I could possibly be home on the weekends with the fam. would also like something that has a rider program so wife and son could go. If anyone knows where I could find this email me # co30ff@yahoo.com. thanks mike

Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

Most of the "Mega-Companies" will require at least a refresher course to look at you. When you add the points, you're in a tough competition with others likely to be chosen first. How old are the driving offenses and what are they? This is your business and I'm not without fault myself, just thinking a discussion might come up with some ideas.
My experience is not recent and I have a ticket almost five years old. Schneider said they would take me with a refresher course and a short company training run. I have also talked to a couple of small OTR fleet owners that were willing to give me a chance if their insurance will approve.
The BFIs want to train you because, in my estimation, they make somewhere around $10,000 - $15,000 on this before they put you in a truck on your own. They benefit from tax credits, government subsidies, inflated training fees, team freight hauling and cheap labor. When you throw in fleece/purchases they are making more on their scams than they are on hauling freight.
I'm not trying to hijack your thread, just throwing out some ideas. -
I have no offences at all clean driving record. the 5 points are all to the good from defensive driving I took and I am a ff so I have evoc to drive firetruck and when I took that class it also gave me good points to my record. so my record shouldn't hold me back just my experience. If I would have had any offences then my record would have neg. points. just saying. any help is appreciated.

Cool. Now I see it says "plus", I have never heard of positive points.
Small Companies and small fleet owners are probably your best bet. I'm no expert, I've done a lot of research and just try to help out when I can. Was the dump truck combination or strait? -
Check my post out, I am located in SW VA and I am looking for a driver with experience. We do have a rider program and the min age for kids is 5. If you are interested, visit my website at www.snowmanrx.com and take a look around. The truck I have open is my old personal truck in my avatar. She is on the chopping block soon for replacement in the next few months. All of my trailers are brand new and I am in the process of replacing/expanding my fleet with new Coronado's.

Both combo and strait. thanks for all your help.

If you can get a refresher course, call Western Express. They run both vans and flats out of a terminal in VA. If you can, go flat. Van drivers pretty much live in the NorthEast, pulling water out of Poland Springs and paper loads outta Maine.
