Yeah, I'd be looking too. Dispatch has screwed up this week on me, cost me about 4 hours of drive time every day for the last three days. Sent me to Chicago, forgot he was going to look for a different load, sent me over here this morning to unload at 5am even though they never unload these until 8am. Getting unloaded anyway but still annoyed.

Big difference here, though. These people actually listen. From the shop guys to the VP, I can bug any of them and they'll work with me to fix whatever it is. So I'm hanging around here, even though I'd rather be running flatbed. And even with all the time I've lost this week, which usually doesn't happen, I'm sitting at 1772 miles for the week with a bit over 500 to run today before I head home for the weekend.

With CSA and the way things are headed the days of regrooving your drives, having 3 log books and running straight through from long island to San Diego are all but over. I know the old guard hates the way things are headed.....I don't. ...all I want is decent equipment, to work for a company that doesn't have its head up its arse and to run legal and still get decent miles.

Yep... you have to do what you need to to survive... and pissing and moaning about your situation on-line does little to solve that problem. Worrying about the DOT.CSA/FBI/CIA won't get your problems fixed... it's survival mode out here folks... this ain't 2007.

(regarding you mention of my regrooving tool...99% of all tires are regroovable and they don't care what tool you use... those tires were still legal to run despite what you may think. Crude... yes. Legal... 10-4. What would YOU have done... sat home without work until the tooth fairy delivered new tires?)

If you don't like the outfit you are with...QUIT. Find another job. There are plenty of wonderful positions with any major mega-carrier... we all know how good those jobs are don't we?

I knew going this wasn't gonna be cake....I was a pipefitter in power plants and such before this....I know about paying your dues to work your way up.

I have no problem working on my truck, but I think replacing wiring harness's , turbos and egr valves should be left to the shop. I have made small repairs while on the road and will continue to do so.

Look at the OP....I want to know if this is typical....am I getting screwed. A debate about how things used to be vs how the are now and will be is for another thread.

I did my homework before entering this field and I have an idea where FMSCA is headed.

Krooser - do you pay someone to piss in your Cheerios every morning or do you take the pleasure of doing it yourself.

It's hard to know exactly how a company is until you join up because drivers will lie about miles and other things.

I actually think that your situation is pretty common. I lot of people have these ideas about how great truck driving is before they try it.

Another thing is finding out how they expect you to run before you join on. If their other drivers are working the log book to get miles then that tells you that dispatch probably isn't going to be efficient enough to get you miles running legal.
