You have heard of O/W permits right...Coils that big are a regular occurence in Michigan and Ontario.

Correct, I don't have an issue with different opinions. Just with people who make accusations about risking peoples lives when the law is being followed. Like I said he can put as many chains over what's required as he wishes but legal is legal and unless you drive off a mountain that coil isn't going anywhere. What most people don't realize is the trailer weighs around 15k so all your doing is attaching the trailer to the coil, not the other way around.:biggrin_25523:

I run 5 chains on a single regardless of the manifest(weight),tarped or untarped
I have never had an issue, scale or other wise.

So if you loaded a 20k single coil you'd throw 5 chains on it?

You must never come up to IN,OH, and MI. They can legally gross 160K in OH, and like 164K in MI. 8 axle trailers.

Now I work for that company that says to put one strap over a suicide coil and I do. Do I consider it as a type of securement? F no. Chains and a ton of them. I do mine over kill and have guys looking at me all the time wondering why I am using so many.

Kinda like the guy at an iron pipe plant looking at me wondering why I was putting so many straps on my load. The way I see it is DOT says 1 securement device every 4 ft of product for metal. Well it was iron pipe so one strap every 4 feet. Better safe then sorry and it only takes a whole what? a minute or 2 to throw a strap and get it in the winch and tightened down? People are just lazy.

As for the X strap across the suicide I see it all the time and wonder why the heck somebody does it over the tarp? I could see under for tenting the tarp but whatever. You cant fix stupid and you cant teach common sense to a person.

Coil permits are only 120k or maybe its 125k(?) gross in ohio but most only go to 114 or 116k.

You,re the one who made that statement not me, thats why I asked. I would only throw 5 chains, and a strap over top, if the coil was over 50k.

    Scary reflection not funny.:biggrin_25521:
