Well I think it's more a pay per load then strictly per mile, with the driver getting a percentage. Some loads pay more and some less.
This should just be like a ramp style trailer holding 3 cars. Not a full size car hauler. Should be manageable.

Ya well as long as I make enough and dont go broke thats my big thing lol im really thinking about it. My line of thinking is if i dont like it and do it stick it out for like six months to a year and then try and find a van job
-
I don't mean to be rude so don't take this the wrong way but I think its time to
#### or get off the pot
You've been talking about this for a couple months, had some snags (standard) but you've got an opportunity (not perfect) but it is a legit opportunity to enter the industry.
In this economy, you don't have the luxury to wait for your dream job. Even if you fail out and the 1 tonne truck / trailer combo isn't for you, you still learn from the experience.
Just do it man. Just be cautious.TheFreightTrain and jrjsi Thank this. -
Well mac your blunt honesty is awesome! I like that in people makes life easier. But I decided to pass on the guys option, and in doing so I have two more oppratunites that have opend up to me. I got my road test scheduled for monday, and if I pass a fleet owner that has a van on with Panther wants to put me into a van
Which thats more in my wheel house and feel 100% comfortable with that
-
Well that is good, your still ####ting imo, just ####ting on a different pot.
Its also better to be comfortable so I'm glad you got something more akin to what you are looking for. I just started reading your thread and am pulling to see you get on the road in one form or another. -
Well thanks man! I appericate it! And its been a journey to say the least. I did one road test before, and I failed miserably at the pre trip. But it was a learning experince. I know what I did wrong and when the lady pointed out what I did wrong I couldnt get mad at her for failing me, I did mess up big time. But I know now what I did wrong, and it wont happen twice. I just did a pre trip practice test and think i did ok, not great but not bad either, hit all the points that I needed to. And this weekend im gonna do two more tomorow two more sunday, and gonna have my dad help and act kind of like a tester just to practice more for it.
And yeah I defitnly want to be as comfortable as I can be specially starting up. Im new to the business and only OTR experince I have which it dont count as such but ive just done a lot of traveling. And I think driving a van would be the perfect fit for me. And I been in talks with this lady out of Pittsburg PA she has a van on with panther and if I pass monday she wants me to drive her van so im defitnly going to try and hit it out of the park monday -
Ask lots of questions to the owner over the van and check the contract that she makes you sign so you don't get screwed in the ### Don't just jump
TheFreightTrain Thanks this. -
Defitnly will do, is there any good questions to ask, when Ive talked to them my mind just kind of goes blank lol

So today is another step forward for me. And another step closer to this Freight Train bein turned loose on the highways
I had my road test earlier. Almost failed the pretrip again...*sigh* But I got by just barely. I had 10 things I didnt mention, and any more she would of had to fail me. I did pretty good with the basic skills test. On where you have to make a right turn and get your back passenger wheel as close to the cone without hitting it the side wall just knicked the cone, and the rest of the drills were smooth sailing cause she never corrected me on anything else. The actual road test was pretty good. I did stop to far past the lines at red lights and blinking red lights, and the only other mishap I had on driving was she had me pull over to the side of the road, and act like I was going to get out of the vehicle to check somethin in the rear. I forgot to set the parking brake and didnt check the right rear view to see if say someone was commin up to the side of the vehicle to help. But ...all in all... at the end of the day.... I passed.... thats all that matters id like to think! And I been in talks with a fleet owner from Pittsburgh she has a van on with Panther and Im kind of thinking ill be going with her, unless I see a good FedEx Option

Congrats on passing. Good luck with the fleet owner from Pa.
