Engine missing after upshifting

I have a Detroit Series 60 engine and lately after upshifting to usually 10th but sometimes in 8th or 9th, the engine misses for a second sometimes it misses a couple of times. I can see a puff of black smoke in the mirror when this happens. Is this an injector problem or something else?

It does not seem to do it if taking the engine to a higher RPM when shifting, but I cannot say that with 100% certainty.

Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks in advance.

 

Former Prime truck so not sure on the salt corrosion. There is some signs of rust on the truck, but nothing I would call extreme, but I'm sure it's seen some salt. It is an '07 Freightliner Century manufactured 07/06. As far as the series, that I don't know right off. It is a 14 liter

Other than the small hiccups, it pulls strong. I do think it was running a little hot and it maybe derated itself down in South Carolina two weeks ago, but I have since washed out the radiators externally (not flushed). I was noticing quite a loss of power then, but after stopping the engine to say get fuel or whatever, it seemed to run strong again.
