I just found out that transferring my CDL from Tennessee to Ohio doesn't automatically cancel my old Tennessee CDL. So I have two active CDLs to my name (state of Ohio took my old license). Even though I don't have my TN CDL in plastic, I'm in violation of Federal Law anyway, it could mean some serious trouble. How do you deal with this situation after moving to another state?
How to make old CDL from another state inactive?

Go to Tennessee, drink lots of beer, then pull up to a police station and start doing donuts in your car in their parking lot.
Seriously though, I have no idea. You'd have to call TN motor vehicle dept & ask them. -
My AK liscence did not cancel out. I had to send them a letter with a copy of my new liscence and request for it to be canceled.

Hmmm? I moved from TN to IL and back to TN and it cancelled out. Are you sure you didn't check too early? Gov't workers are slow and it takes up to 60 days sometimes.
I think your problem is OH. They are bad about communicating with other states. I don't know about now, but it use to be you could get 3 tickets in OH before they reported to your home state. Then they reported all of them. -
The record may also not be fully removed either. I moved to Florida in 2000 and back to WI in 2005. When I changed my license back to WI, they still had my old record, and gave me the license with the expiration date that it would have expired on had I never moved.

A lot of guys would love to have your problem... two CDLs? Sounds like the old days.

Seriously, tho. I'd write a letter to the state asking the record to show it having been transferred. I wouldn't say 'canceled' as knowing bureaucracies, they may forward that to your new state, and they in turn cancel your present license thinking the old one had been canceled before transferring. -
I had a similiar situation when I came back from Az to IL. I simply went the local DMV and requested to deactivate the other license. They took it, shredded it, update the record and with Az I did everything with a phone call. Hope this helps and have a great day!!!
