This may be the wrong sub-forum, if so sorry in advance to the mods.

I'm currently working security at a Fed-Ex freight yard and have spent the last few weeks talking to some of the longhaulers that come in about their companies (USX, Interstate, Warner, Quest, CRST...)

I want to do OTR solo... but on my mvr I have two moving violations in the last three years and four in the last five.... none in the last twelve months (by the time I get my cdl)

The worst one was 75 in a 50 and that was in 02 of 2008
two failure to make a complete stop at a sign
    one 54 in a 35...

I saved the worst for last.
I also have a DUII in early 2008 for pot... this is not on my.mvr as a duii but as DIVRT because I pleaded nocontest and jumped threw some hoops for a dismissal.....

    Thanks for your advice
Ps im 25 and only started to grow out of my youthful stupidity in 09....

All of the trucking companies normally state what their driving requirements are. For example like everytruckingjob.com shows pay, equipment hauled, whether they accept students and what their moving violation policy is and what their dui policy is. Good luck going forward!!

    20ozjolt Thanks this.

    One word of advise....
Just because it does not show up on a mvr does not mean it will not turn up on a background check....carriers sometimes use private companies that have the info....just removing from the court records no longer means it never happened....quite a few folks have gotten through training and thought they had a job only to told they do not meet the requirements...a prehire is only as good as the honesty in which it has been filled out.
Imo you options will be so limited it might be a good idea to move on for a few years....when you have a clean record for the past 5+ years you might have better chance...10+ if the dui is recorded anywhere (,if ever).

I will be submitting a "certified letter of dismissal" with my applications I have no intention of misleading a carrier. Im looking for a career.

Interstate will take me if I can get 6mo OTR experience.

i don't see it happening for you..stay at your current employer, keep your nose clean for another 3 years, THEN go to trucking school. i think you will be wasting your money.

Any moving violation can be problematic for those wanting to drive a truck. Carriers are required to go back 3 years on your MVR. The violations you listed are very serious. Running stop signs and speeding over 10 mph over is considered very serious. You would be better off to wait until your MVR is completely clear. The DUI could be a problem with some carriers even though it was diverted? Some carriers will hire drivers with a DUI that is at least 5 years old. Each carrier makes their own policy. Some will not hire any driver who has ever had a DUI. Before paying money for school, I would speak with a few carriers and see what they say. As I stated, I would still wait until the moving violations dropped off your MVR.

Many companies won't hire if you have any drug related offense in the last 10 years. So say a company has a 5 year limit on misdemeanors, if it's a drug offense they may have a separate policy for it being 10 years which they won't list.

Also, many big companies will now put in fine print at the bottom of an application that diversions must be listed under convictions. Not all of them do though. Now, whether they treat them as a conviction or if they legally can, I do not know. They don't look much at diversions that are deferred prosecution as you never plead guilty or no contest. They do tend to look more at diversions that are deferred sentences, which is what you have by pleading no contest.
