I've been thinking about becoming a truck driver for awhile now. I don't necessarily have the 3 to 5 grand for school and am considering either a loan, Or I just saw in the local paper that TMC is hiring and paying for school through wmcdl. I know I have to sign a contract to work for them for a certain period of time, would this be a good option or should I opt for the loan? I searched the forum and found some bad things on them, but the biggest complaint I saw was lack of home time. Right now I am 21 with no wife, no kids, and figure I don't mind being gone for extended periods, what do you guys think would be the better option? Thanks!

If they have a contract with your local college I say go for it. TMC normally requires you have a cdl first to work with them or have graduated a cdl program. I've heard pretty good things about them and we can definitely applaud you for wanting to become a skateboarder. Anything we can do as fellow forum members dont hesitate to reachout and best of luck!!

Thanks for the advice. Do you think it'd be good to start with a flatbed or would getting some experience on a box first be preferable?

Depends on your capabilities. If you're not going to be overwhelmed learning load securement concurrently with getting a feel for actually driving a truck (talking about in the real world, not in a school environment), then go for it. Many a truck driver has successfully started off as flatbedders. And there are some who do get overwhelmed. It all depends on you, really.
