Hey guys, I am a newbie T600 truck owner. It is a 1990 and since I purchased it the fuel gauge has been on 1/4 tank. The truck has 436k miles and did sit a lot. I have a good amount of automotive experience. My question is do the tanks have floats? I would think that if this was electrical problem then the gauge would read either full or empty. We just put 100 gallons in it and it didn't move. I'm thinking a float might be sticking. What do you'll think? Is it pretty easy to get to?

    Thanks
    Joe

I had this issue when I first got mine the sensor/float inside the tank is stuck. I had to bring it to a mechanic.

Pretty sure t600's only read from the left side tank too. You can fill the right tank and it will have no idea.

I do believe you are correct. When I got mine new I was at the Kenworth dealership in Fargo and drove right down the road to the Flying J to fuel up got both tanks full start the truck look at the gauge and it was stuck at 1/4. It seems to be a very simple issue and fix.

I had the chain that keeps you from losing the fuel cap get caught on the float and POP it off the end of the sending unit on my FL classic. Gauge read empty all the time. But I doubt that's yer issue. Just figured you could laugh at my misfortune lol. Took me a while to fish the float out of the tank with a coat hanger and put it back on.

it will be a float--wether it is stuck or not would be debateable--sometimes the wiper wears a dead spot on the sender----you might be able to grab it --if your arm is skinny enough--or use a coat hanger and work it back and forth to check--also very easy to pull out and check by hand

Thanks everyone for the replies. I checked the sender and the first thing I noticed it is that the wires on top were loose. I tightened the nuts and everything seems good. I did look like there was just the one sending unit on the drivers side.

Thanks again everyone! This forum is great!

These older trucks usually have a crossover line between the tanks, hence you only need 1 guage. What you have on left side will be same on rite side. Something to do with gravity and such. \"/ 2 things 2 watch out for with this setup: If the vent on top of the tank gets plugged, that tank will stay full of fuel while the other 1 mt's out. Also if you're about out of fuel and stop on shoulder for a while, fuel can drain out of left side enuff that truck may not run.
