Maybe the regulations HAVE helped decreased accidents. I know it's a horrible thought, but accidents are at an all-time low since 1949. Vehicles on the road have increased by 360%. Maybe traffic rules work, and it's not some vast government conspiracy to kill your joy by not letting you play "squash the pedestrian". Or "squash the Prius".
Although I hate Priuses... they and their owners annoy me. -
In the vein of so #### many of them, so #### useless?
Well...
Just keep in mind they may be useless, but they do buy the stuff you bring 'em.
And if they buy enough of it... they may create the need for another load for ya!
Hey!
Maybe they are useful after all! LOL!
Nah! More fun squashin' em!

CSA 2010 doesn't allow for driver targeted interventions, only carrier interventions. It's only during a compliance review of a carrier that drivers can be penalized under CSA 2010.
Nothing goes against your license. But, any violation discovered during an inspection, that should have been discovered by the driver during his/her equipment inspection, will get the driver points. -
I didn't say he was smart. But he is a #### good driver.
I was responding to ronin when he alluded that a carrier has some type of annual citation/accident reporting requirement, and they don't. Only an accident register that isn't needed unless asked for during a compliance review. Maybe he was referring to the annual review of driving records, but carriers don't have to report it to anyone, just keep it on file.
The carrier didn't knowingly allow the driver to drive with a suspended license.
Annually check? What good does that do when the drivers license is suspended in the middle of the year? The fact is that this carrier checks monthly. They checked on the first of March, the drivers license was suspended near the end of March and the day after it was suspended was when he was inspected. Their compliance review was in April. -
I am not sure if regulation has had a direct effect on accidents and fatalities.
I do know that trucks are in a lot better shape equipment wise than they were 20 years ago, when I started doing roadside inspections. Many serious violations that used to be commonplace (broken springs, broken wheels, broken frames, wheels falling off, etc.) are rare now. -
Better design, use of better alloys and the financial need to rotate trucks every 4-5 years has alot to do with that. Maintenance/shop practices really have changed until CSA2010 was being implemented. Trucks still go through hell and take a beating by many drivers. They can withstand it alot more now, lol.
DOT intervention and regulations have cut down on accidents and deaths. Now if someone could regulate the 4 wheelers, deaths would be cut in half.THBatMan8 Thanks this. -
Bingo, we have a winner!
Truckers for the most part try to be as careful as they can be. After all, your CDL is your livelyhood. The main issues I see are when 4 wheelers are thrown into the mix.
