I worry about them suddenly moving back over or make a right turn with the wrong blinker on.

I will not pass them until they make the turn.

I start left turnsignal 10-seconds before beginning to coast and brake, and continue the signal while braking and turning.
One time when I started my signal, I heard a jake brake. When I moved left into the opposing lane, it silenced. It appears thathose who see this maneuver understand its purpose. Two have waved.

The left lane thing is nice and I even do it. But it's wrong and you can get in trouble.

As long as you follow the rules and do what you are suppose to, I wouldn't sweat the other stuff. An extended turn signal is all you need and it's up to the driver behind you to act accordingly. Usually they will see the signal and drop back to allow room to recover some of their speed. That's just dealing with traffic. You won't get hate mail because they had to slow down some.

I do this in my car all the time, if no oncoming traffic or someone on the crossroad I'm turning left onto, who might pull out and make a right, directly in my path.

This sounds like a reverse mexican left-turn if I understand it correctly.

No they're talking about just using the oncoming lane for braking when turning left.

You pull over to the right shoulder and wait for both directions to clear, then make your left turn. That way you don't hold up traffic.
