Fox news is reproting that the driver went through the barrier and hit the 4th car in the train. Texting?

Cellphones have huge deadspots out there. From what I've been told Uncle Pete was out working around there and that the gates might have come down a bit slower than normal.

Like the train beat the gates.

That may be, but it is very flat there, and there seems to be good visibility in both directions.

    Google street view: http://maps.google.com/?ll=39.89559...noid=dKNUzibJFUB_jvUgV20sYw&cbp=12,15.55,,0,0

How could the driver have not seen the train?

One thing is for sure...this accident was 110% preventable! There's no good reason why this fool of a driver went through the crossing arms & into this train. The loss of life is pathetic and didn't need to happen.

From one story, the truck didn't go through the crossing arms.

Because they didn't come down until after the train was through the crossing!

    Yeap.

I want you to read this.

The question is was the Zephyr trying to make up lost time. Was it speeding? Did the gates not come down in time, and ask yourself, how hard would it be to see a polished train in the bright sunlight?
