How bout some of the cdl schools/colleges around richmond?I went to cdl school in n/c and we had like 3 locals that parked their trucks there at home time.

I can park mine at home. I got a 150 foot gravel strip about 300 feet from the house, a double-circuit 60 amp underground feed so I can plug it in when I need to, a farm tractor to pull the stupid piece of **** when it gets stuck in snow, and a certifiably insane attack dog to guard it.

And I'm STILL too lazy to go outside and check on it!

It all depends. During my home time I will park my truck where my brother-in-law works, as his warehouse has room to park. I also live a few miles away from one of CRE's larger customers (Nestle), and sometimes I will park there.

Hometime with my girl friend is a different story; as I have to be creative to find a parking spot within 50 miles of her home. What I ended up doing is renting a spot from a storage facility.

Must be nice. Both my sister and girl friend live in neighborhoods managed by the HOA, and they don't like it when you park a CMV in their turf.

haha... richmond my neck of the woods, well driver i was a deliver man in the river city for two and a half years and i know the city like the back of my hands and surrounding areas... what part of town are you looking to park it on??

The northside have a couple of areas, The Wal-Mart on Brook Road alot of guys park there trucks behind there, The T/A has plenty of parking so if you just back it in a corner i doubt anyone will mess with it, ive seen a couple of trucks parked on this side road off of the First Brook Rd exit going north leaving the city if you jump off 95 behind that Food Lion Shopping Center

The West End, plenty of guys especially can haulers park there trucks on a little side street at the Corner of Parham and Staples Mills where the old Produce Warehouse use to sit, thats all that comes to my mind for west end right now

On Southside, there's a couple of side streets you can park on off of Jefferson Davis (Route 301/1) one inparticular is if you make a right off of Jefferson Davis onto Bells Road, go across the Train Tracks and turn by Wyatt Transfer to the left then there quite a few guys who park there.... Guys was parking across from the old Mall on Midlothian Turnpike in that Shopping Center, its wide enough and big enough to be out the way but idk if they still do it...

and on the East End, there's quite a few streets you can park on back in the Airport Business Park...

now as far as companies go well i don't know if they'll let you park there with no problem, i know Celdon has Security pretty tight at there yard with them and Saia and INMO i think UPS thinks there better than everybody so i doubt that will happen... On Commerece Road in Southside I think there's a place that actually allows truck parking in a secured lot but im not sure, best bet is to take a ride through there but if all fails feel free to call Swift, Celadon, UPS, and Others around, might luck up...

The op is just starting out. He doesn't even have his learners permit yet so he has at least three months before he has to lock down a parking spot.

This is something great about being a driver, you need help or advice just ask your question and there are plenty of drivers and exdrivers ready to help.

I'm sure if he figures this out now, that'll be one less thing stressing him out though. One less thing to worry about. He's got enough to learn right now, enough CRAP to deal with like what if he's out of hours and has nowhere to park but the back row of a Flying J and everyone who got there early left their ICC bumpers hanging 10 feet over the line so everyone in the spots behind them are sticking 10 feet into the aisle, etc.

Look for a farmer with a large barn and "junk" area. Some place the truck won't sink 6' into! Even look your area over with satellite pictures from Google or MS! They are about 3 years old but for searching your area a picture doesn't hurt!

If you do have to pay for parking keep the receipts for your taxes if the company doesn't reimburse it.

I was in the same boat as you a couple years ago. I looked in the yellow pages for any trucking company in the area, and asked them if they had any room. Don't discount any big truck dealers in the area either. I wound up parking at a brick yard, a mile from my house for $50 a month.:biggrin_25525:

Good ideas thank you. I live near the airport. Ideally I would like to find a secure place around here. I need to find out with the county if i am even allowed to park bobtail in front of my house. This is a tight county.......
