It will be difficult to find a gym on a regular basis while you are on the road. Even if you could find one, parking could be a problem. You are not going to want to drop your trailer and go to a gym, especially if you are loaded. It would be easier for you to find a way to exercise in the truck. I met a guy several years ago in North Carolina. He was doing stretches and using his dumbbells to stay in shape. In his case, he would exercise while waiting to load or get loaded. I think someone else mentioned it, but TA is planning on putting some gyms or exercise rooms in some of their facilities. I don't know much about what they are planning. I suppose we will need to wait to see if enough participate to make it worthwhile for them. It seems to me that someone tried that some years ago and finally closed them due to lack of interest. I stay in fairly good shape. I try to eat right and don't do snacks.

Seriously the dumbbells would be your best bet...almost all of the machine setups you'll find in high-end gyms you can imitate with a set of interchanging dumbbells. You get more stability/core training that way too. As for cardio, it's nothing more than a few or more laps around a truck stop perimeter at a comfortable pace. Once you get your reps and sets down, you can work it into your off duty time every other day...very manageable.

I mentioned this in another section...Get a curling bar and some 10 lb plates and work out in the truck. The curling bar is short, so it will store in the truck. You can do several different routines with it. Including the bar, I work out with 60 lbs. I do several reps and make it kinda of a arobic exercise. I would like to have more plates but I haul alot of heavy loads and my steers are heavy as it is. I do military(shoulder press), curls, upward row, and you can do squats. You can do the same with dumbbells if you want, but I prefer the curling bar. Do this and you can have arms like bumpy!!!!!

OK;It's time for me to come "clean". The only reason I have these "pipes" is cause when I was going through jump school at age 17 at Ft.Benning,Ga.,I would have to do 20 push-ups everytime I screwed up...Uh huh, yup,I did a LOT of push-ups..:biggrin_25511: Not real bright,I am I am (NOT):biggrin_25525::biggrin_2559:

if you want to stay in a shape--other than round, you should be flatbedding-tarps and straps will give you a workout much more than closing a pair of doors will

Your diet can have as much to do with weight gain as anything when you do this job. I weigh about the same now as I did 30 years ago. I usually stay away from the buffet's and try to eat a balanced diet. I am not one to snack. I often will get an omelet and substitute fruit for the potatoes. Buffet's usually have a lot of carbs. We need some carbs, but not as many as I see on most buffet's. Take a look at your portions, too. I will often leave food on my plate rather than trying to eat everything. You can eat pretty much everything that you want if you watch your portions. Some people like to keep snacks in the truck. If you want something to snack on get some fruit or veggies and keep them in a cooler in the truck. They are much better for you and will save money, too. Another thing that I do is park in a truck stop where I have to walk further rather than trying to get close to the front door.

I get exercise walking back there to close the doors, and then my hand gets in shape closing them.
