2 Speeding Tickets and a Drug Possession - Who Will Hire Me?

I'll pass judgement on the OP. You did bad things. I've seen worse. Keep applying, you'll catch on somewhere.

 

Lots of good replies from both sides of the argument. You came back and took your lumps. I've certainly made my share of mistakes but fortunately was mostly like GravDigr.

I say don't ever give up on a dream as long as you can stand and fight. Changing your ways and a strong resolve will go a long ways in getting an opportunity.

 

Many have done bad things or come from bad childhoods. It's called growing up if you realize your own mistakes and try and correct them.

There's thousands of careers out there. I don't understand why you would pursue the one that would give you the hardest time given your background. You said no company would give you a chance, but you run off and commit to a driving school to the tune of $5000. I'm not trying to put you down. You just haven't put much thought into it. That's like not being mechanical minded where you can't even start a bolt and you decide you want to be a mechanic. It don't mix.

If you continue, you will have to be very lucky for a company to give you a chance. Your driving habits need a complete overhaul. That's not the thing hurting you though. Nobody will touch you with a drug conviction for at least 7 years. You are considered a high risk right now with the insurance companies. They have alot of say who the companies can and cannot hire.

You have a family. You're understanding the need to step up to the plate and be responsible which is good.

You already started the ball rolling. There is no sense to quit. You're out $5,000 regardless, so you might as well get the CDL. If you can't get a driving job now, you can later. Maybe you can luck up with a local job like a dump truck. I've had a few local jobs that didn't do a background check.

Just have a plan B and be ready to pursue another career. Since you have to provide maybe consider an apprenticeship in a trade where you can earn and learn. Maybe look for a job driving a yard dog that doesn't leave the property.

 

I should've clarified in my earlier post, I wasn't pointing out anyone individually, or really even in this thread. Usually the general tone when a post like this comes up is very different. This is actually the most positive and constructive set of replies I have seen to something like this.

I wish you luck. Maybe you can find a local outfit and work your way beyond your past.

The reefer charge isn't a deal killer. Put 3 yrs between you and the speeding tickets- expedite companies will hire you.

 

You are SOL for 7 years, maybe more. You knew you were breaking the laws and that comes with consequences.

 

One year means nothing. Most outfits wont touch a three year old record like this, with a ten foot pole. More like 7 to ten years. Excessive speed and being wasted kills people.

 

I agree that people deserve a second chance but would YOU hire a guy with three driving convictions in a short time span like one year?
