I do not even leave for Srpingmo until the 26th. But today I think I learned a most valuable lesson. I was in the trainer's seat so to speak.
My son got his restricted DL this am so on the way home I put the old beater that will be his on a dirt road (we live in the country) where there is almost no traffic. He has been allowed to practice starts and stops for a number of months on our property so I knew he could handle the clutch.
He did pretty good until we went to pull into our drive (two fence posts 14 ft apart) STOP!!he did and we calmly discussed braking and turning speeds.
He still did pretty good. I am taking him to an industrial park that has no businesses in it (county said build it and they will come waste of tax dollars but cool roads to teach a kid on) to learn.
As I reflected on it I think I got a small glimpse of what a trainer must feel like when a PSD takes the wheel. Puts things into perspective for me.
Look forward to joining you guys
what I learned today

Good for you....now for additional "pre-training"....hook a little trailer on the back of that "old beater" and try to teach him how to back a trailer....better yet, have him teach you how to back a trailer.
Actually the mechanics of doing it is much easier than finding the exact way to verbalize what you are thinking. -
A little trailer can't be anything like a 53 footer right

The 53' is easier to see lol Kind of hard to miss it lol That is a good idea though... An industrial park is where youll get your first real experience drivin the truck.
