@GMAN
very true id'e want to see all the paper work and put it on a dyno and have it tested. and yes the other owner could have rebuilt what was starting to go on the tractor before he sold it off and diesels usaly last almost forever anyways. i still would have asked to see the paper work and put it on a dyno just to be safe of what i was getting -
CarFax is about as accurate as a wether forcast. I ran the serial #s on vehicles we owned from brand new and found some very big errors.
I know a few people who bought trucks as well as sold trucks through Shelby Elliot and had no problems. -
In anyway whenever you buy a used vehicle of any kind, it's wise to spend a little bit of $$ to have a certified technician inspect it completely for anything defects on it. Anyone that refuses to do so is buying at their own risk & accepts whatever the problems might be with it.

The best advice I keep seeing in this thread is
Have someone with experience such as a mechanic check it out!
I have 32 years driving and crawling all over trucks and trailers and even if I were to ever buy another truck (that is if my brain would start working after stupid brain surgery) I would still take it to a mechanic WAY away from the dealer I'm buying from! Unless there is another dealer (Pete, FL, Volvo, ect) around the corner and pay for a complete inspection and not just a regular DOT inspection!
You're about to sink at the minimum $1700.00 and over for something you are about to try to make money with so why would you trust any "USED CAR SALESMAN??" and thats about how I would have to put it! There is no difference between a used car or truck salesman! Yes there actually are a few of them out there but how do you tell?
When you go shopping for a truck have the extra money in your pocket to pay for an independent shop to do the inspection! DO NOT THINK that you know it all! Even me with all my knowledge that hasn't leaked out won't buy one without a real experts decision to buy a used truck! -
Carfax is a total junk, it only tracks vehicles that are serviced or repaired at reputable shops. The #### car could have been totalled and rebuilt in someones garage and they would never know it or report it.
-
If you can prove that the mileage was altered before you bought it then you still have a chance.
-
Just for info, Carfax has nothing to do with repairs, only items that hit state data bases like initial sale, registration, emissions testing, and title status changes.
With that in mind, since it takes 60-180 days for an entry to hit Carfax, you could total a car, rebuild it, get a salvage title....and if you sell it quickly, the Carfax report still shows a clean car. That's why I've testified thar Carfax is a worthless waste of time and money.
This has been a public service announcement. Back to your original topic.Rollover the Original Thanks this.
